Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule is an Indian historical drama television series Directed by Rupesh D Gohil and Produced by RDG Productions Pvt.Ltd. The drama, aired on Doordarshan National, is based on the life of Savitribai Phule.
Savitribai Phule (3 January 1831 – 10 March 1897) was an Indian social reformer, teacher and poet. Along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule she played an important role in improving women's rights in India during British rule. The couple founded the first women's school at Bhide Wada in pune in 1848.. She also worked to abolish discrimination and unfair treatment of people based on caste and gender. She is regarded as an important figure of the Social Reform Movement in Maharashtra and is regarded as "Rashtramata" (The Mother of The Nation). But unfortunately majority of many Indians especially young generation is not aware of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The story starts with a terrifying incident of a girl burnt alive in a village in Maharashtra and while covering this news ace reporter Kavya Banerjee meets social reformer Bhaskar manjule for his review and opinion regarding the incident. Bhaskar while giving his interview gives example of Savitribai Phule and to his shock Kavya questions him about Savitribai Phule as she is completely unaware of this iconic lady. Bhaskar scolds Kavya and tells her that its very shameful being a female journalist she doesn’t know about this great lady. Kavya feels guilty and she decides to find out more information on Savitribai Phule. Kavya on suggestion of Bhaskar manjule leaves for kudaal village near satara to meet retired professor Namdev patil who is a true follower of Savitribai Phule.
Kavya meets Namdev in his village but he refuses to give information about Savitribai Phule but later on seeing her dedication and sincerity about her work he agrees to narrate the story of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule'.
Jyotirao Govindrao Phule was an Indian social activist, thinker, anti-caste social reformer and writer from Maharashtra. His work extended to many fields, including eradication of untouchability and the caste system and for his efforts in educating women and exploited caste people. He and his wife, Savitribai Phule, were pioneers of women education in India. Phule started his first school for girls in 1848 in Pune at Tatyasaheb Bhide's residence or Bhidewada. He, along with his followers, formed the Satyashodhak Samaj to attain equal rights for people from exploited castes. People from all religions and castes could become a part of this association which worked for the upliftment of the oppressed classes. Phule is regarded as an important figure in the social reform movement in Maharashtra. He was bestowed with honorific Mahātmā title by Maharashtrian social activist Vithalrao Krishnaji Vandekar in 1888.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly University of Pune and University of Poona, is a collegiate public state university located in Pune, Maharashtra. Established in 1949, and spread over a 411 acres (1.66 km2) campus, the university is home to 43 academic departments. The university is named after Savitribai Phule, a 19th-century Indian social reformer who is known for her contribution towards empowerment and emancipation of women through education. Satyashodhak Samaj was a social reform society founded by Jyotirao Phule in Pune, Maharashtra, on 24 September 1873. It espoused a mission of education and increased social rights and political access for underprivileged groups, focused especially on women, Shudras, and Dalits, in Maharashtra. Jyotirao's wife Savitribai was the head of women's section of the society. The Samaj disbanded during the 1930s as leaders left to join the Indian National Congress party under Mahatma Gandhi.

Fatima Sheikh was an Indian educator, who was a colleague of the social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. Fatima Sheikh was the sister of Mian Usman Sheikh, in whose house Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule took up residence. One of the first Muslim women teachers of modern India, she started educating Dalit children in Phules' school. Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule along with Fatima Sheikh, took charge of spreading education among the downtrodden communities.
