Kulrathna Maha Vidyalaya also known as P. De S. Kularathna College is a mixed school in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka. The school was established in 1986 by Hon. Anagarika Ryter Thilakasekara, then MP for Ambalangoda and the founder principal of the school was Mr. Dayawansha Ginige. [1] The school is named after the famous Sri Lankan educationist Patrick de Silva Kularatne. Presently Kulrathna Maha Vidyalaya provides primary and secondary education to a student population of over 3000.
Currently, the largest standing statue erected in a school in Sri Lanka is located in P. De. S Kularathne College.[ citation needed ]
Kegalle is a large town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. It is located on the Colombo–Kandy road, approximately 78 km (48 mi) from Colombo, 40 km (25 mi) from Kandy, 32 km (20 mi) from Kurunegala and 46 km (29 mi) from Avissavella. Patrick de Silva Kularatne was a Sri Lankan educationist and politician. He was a Member of the State Council of Ceylon (1942–1947) and Member of Parliament (1960–1965). He served as Principal of Ananda College and Dharmaraja College and established Nalanda College Colombo, Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Moratuwa Vidyalaya and Dharmapala Vidyalaya. As a member of the executive committee on Education, he played an instrumental role in the realisation of free education from kindergarten to university.

It is known as The Battle of the Golds due to the colours of the two schools' flags i.e. Green, Gold and Blue of Sri Sumangala College and Maroon, Gold & Maroon of Moratu Maha Vidyalaya.
