The Kumar Gandharva Samman is an Indian annual award for outstanding talent in the field of music established by the government of Madhya Pradesh in 1992. It is named after Kumar Gandharva, a classical singer. [1] [2]

Selection criteria

Performers of Indian classical music, Carnatic music, and Hindustani classical music between the ages of 25 and 45 are considered for the award each year. Nominations are filed with the state's department of culture, and a selection committee of experts makes the final decision. [3] [4]

Recipients

Recipients of the Kumar Gandharva Samman are given a scroll of honour and a cash prize.[ citation needed ]

Tansen Samaroh or Tansen Sangeet Samaroh is celebrated every year in the month of December in Behat village of Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh. It is a 4-day musical extravaganza. Artists and music lovers from all over the world gather here to pay tribute to the Great Indian Musical Maestro Tansen. The event is organized near the tomb of Tansen by Ustad Alauddin Khan Kala Evam Sangeet Academy, under the department of culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh. Manjiri Asanare–Kelkar is an Indian Hindustani classical vocalist from Sangli, Maharashtra. She is a follower of Jaipur-Atrauli gharana tradition in Hindustani khyal. She received many awards including Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Akademi and Kumar Gandharva Samman by the government of Madhya Pradesh.
