Kuopio is a city in Finland and the regional capital of North Savo. It is located in the Finnish Lakeland. The population of Kuopio is approximately 125,000, while the sub-region has a population of approximately 146,000. It is the 8th most populous municipality in Finland, and the seventh most populous urban area in the country.

Kuopio Lyceum High School is an upper secondary school (lukio) for students aged 15–19. Kuopion Lyseon lukio is located in Kuopio, Finland. Originally established as a boys' school in 1872, Kuopion Lyseo opened its doors to both sexes in 1977. The origins of Kuopion Lyseo can be traced further back to Viipurin Triviaalikoulu that was established in 1534 and relocated to Kuopio in 1777.

The Finnish Matriculation Examination is the matriculation examination taken at the end of secondary education to qualify for entry into university. In practice, the test also constitutes the high school's final exam(s), although there is a separate diploma on graduating from high school, based not on the exam, but on the grades of individual courses. Since 1919, the test has been arranged by a national body, the Matriculation Examination Board. Before that, the administration of the test was the responsibility of the University of Helsinki.
Gabriel Maxenius was born about 1710 in Lohja, probably to freeholders in the village of Maksjoki. He became a student at Turku Cathedral School on 21 February 1723, graduating on 19 June 1729, and matriculated as an undergraduate in Turku in 1729. He was tutor to the family of the priest Henrik Argillander in Kuopio in 1730. While there, he wrote the short text De effectibus fascino naturalibus, about traditional magical customs and rituals in the Kuopio region, providing some of the first evidence for these phenomena in Finland. He developed this material as a doctoral thesis, and was examined on 12 August 1733 by Johan Thorwöste. He was consecrated as a priest in the Diocese of Porvoo on 25 April 1734, and was assistant to the vicar in Helsinki in the same year. He was choirmaster of the grammar school there. He was elected vicar of Mäntsälä in 1741. Still unmarried, at least as of 1743, he held a sinecure in the diocese of Turku in 1749.
The Kuopio school stabbing occurred on 1 October 2019 at Savo Vocational College in Kuopio, Northern Savonia, Finland. Armed with a sabre, 25-year-old student Joel Otto Aukusti Marin killed a female student and wounded nine others. He also carried an air pistol which was not used during the attack; it was initially mistaken for a real firearm. The attack ended when a policeman shot and wounded Marin.
Väinölänniemi is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is more commonly known for the Väinölänniemi Peninsula, located in this district and surrounded by Kallavesi, with its beaches, sports fields and park areas.
Multimäki is a central district in the heart of Kuopio, Finland. Many of Kuopio's most significant attractions, including the Kuopio's Market Square and Market Hall, Heroes' Park and the Kuopio City Hall, are located in the district. Kuopio Lyceum High School and two kindergartens also operate in the district. Multimäki borders district of Maljalahti in the north, Vahtivuori in the east, Kuopionlahti in the south, and Hatsala in the west. The boundaries of the district are street Minna Canthin katu in the south, Vuorikatu in the east, Suokatu in the north and Puistokatu in the west.
Hiltulanlahti is a rural village and urban area in the southern part of Kuopio, Finland, right next to the European route E63. At the end of 2011, the area had 242 inhabitants.
Vahtivuori is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland, located between the city center and Lake Kallavesi. The southern boundary of Vahtivuori is Minna Canthin katu, the western boundary is Vuorikatu, the northern boundary is Suokatu and the eastern boundary is formed by Lake Kallavesi. The neighboring parts of Vahtivuori are Maljalahti in the north, Väinölänniemi in the south and Multimäki in the west.
Pirtti is a district of Kuopio, Finland. It belongs to the larger subdivision of Petonen, and it is located about 10 kilometers from the center of Kuopio. At the beginning of 2015, the district had a population of 5,480.
Hatsala is a district located west of the center of Kuopio, Finland. The eastern boundary of the area is Puistokatu, the southern boundary is Minna Canthin katu and the northern is the Kuopio motorway. The western border first runs along Sairaalakatu and Niiralankatu. From the intersection of Suokatu, the border first runs north, then turns west and passes through the Savonia railway line to the motorway. The border leaves Mustinlammi on the Niirala side and on the Hatsala side of the swimming hall and Kuopio Hall.
Toivala is a village in Siilinjärvi, near the Kuopio border, in North Savonia, Finland.
