The Orthodox Church of Finland or Finnish Orthodox Church is an autonomous Eastern Orthodox archdiocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The church has a legal position as a national church in the country, along with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland.
Kuopio is a Finnish city and municipality located in the region of Northern Savonia. It has a population of 122,615, which makes it the 8th most populous municipality in Finland. Along with Joensuu, Kuopio is one of the major urban, economic, and cultural hubs of Eastern Finland. At the end of 2018, its urban area had a population of 89,307.
Minna Canth was a Finnish writer and social activist. Canth began to write while managing her family draper's shop and living as a widow raising seven children. Her work addresses issues of women's rights, particularly in the context of a prevailing culture she considered antithetical to permitting expression and realization of women's aspirations. The Worker's Wife and The Pastor's Family are her best known plays, but the play Anna Liisa is the most adapted to the films and operas. In her time, she became a controversial figure, due to the asynchrony between her ideas and those of her time, and in part due to her strong advocacy for her point of view.
Kaarlo Bergbom was a Finnish theatre director. He was the founder of the Finnish National Theatre, the first Finnish language theatre company. Though he wrote very little as a playwright, he was responsible for introducing a number of important Finnish dramatists, particularly Minna Canth, and Finnish translations of William Shakespeare and other foreign writers. Bergbom also founded the magazine Kirjallinen Kuukausilehti.
Kuopio Senior High School of Music and Dance was a specialized high school for music and dance which was founded in 1968. The dance curriculum was started in 1983. The high school was the first specialized senior high of Finnish high schools, which specialized in music and dance. The school gained the name Kuopion yhteiskoulun musiikkilukio in 1995. In 2015, the high school merged with Minna Canth Senior High School to form Kuopio Senior High School of Arts (Lumit).
The Kuopio school stabbing occurred on 1 October 2019 at Savo Vocational College in Kuopio, Northern Savonia, Finland. Armed with a sabre, 25-year-old student Joel Otto Aukusti Marin killed a female student and wounded nine others. He also carried an air pistol which was not used during the attack; it was initially mistaken for a real firearm. The attack ended when a policeman shot and wounded Marin.
Niirala is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland, and it has a population of about 3,500. Niirala is now a popular residential area due to its good location between the Kuopio University and the city center. Niirala's main street is Niiralankatu. The neighboring parts of Niirala are Hatsala in the northeast, Haapaniemi in the southeast, and Savilahti in the west.
Väinölänniemi is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is more commonly known for the Väinölänniemi Peninsula, located in this district and surrounded by Kallavesi, with its beaches, sports fields and park areas.
Rönö is an island in Lake Kallavesi and also a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is located about 2,5 kilometers southeast of Kuopio Market Square, measured along the street network. Since 1988, the island has been connected to Väinölänniemi by a bridge. Rönö is a sought-after residential area and is one of the most expensive areas in Kuopio, along with the archipelago estates in Saaristokaupunki. Only detached, semi-detached and terraced houses have been built there. Most of the island was built during the boom of art in the 1980s and 1990s, but houses have also been built in the 2000s, and a few estates are still completely undeveloped. By the decision of the city council, tenant houses were once built on the highest point of Rönö.

Many of Kuopio's most significant attractions, including the Kuopio's Market Square and Market Hall, Heroes' Park and the Kuopio City Hall, are located in the district. The Malmi Cemetery is a large cemetery located at the corner between Ring I and the Lahti Highway (E75) in the Malmi district in Helsinki, Finland. It is the largest cemetery in Finland in terms of both area and number of burials. It was a former training camp site for soldiers under the administration of the Finnish Crown. In the early 20th century, Malmi Cemetery even had its own train connection and water tower.

The Snellman Park is the oldest park in the city of Kuopio, Finland, located at the Vahtivuori district in the city center between the Kauppakatu and Minna Canthin katu streets, in the adjacent block of Kuopio Cathedral. The park covers an area of 1.4 hectares. Today, the park and its surroundings are part of the larger Kuopio National City Park, established in late 2017. The park is named after J. V. Snellman (1806–1881), the senator and the Fennoman, who influenced the affairs of the Grand Duchy from Kuopio, among other places.
The Minna Shopping Center is a shopping mall in the city center of Kuopio, Finland. It is located in the Multimäki district along the Haapaniemenkatu and Minna Canthin katu streets. The shopping mall is named after local author Minna Canth. Its neighbors include H-Talo and IsoCee.
IsoCee is a shopping mall and entertainment center near the Kuopio Market Square in the city center of Kuopio, Finland. The street address of the shopping center built by the Carlson Group is Ajurinkatu 16, and the distance from IsoCee to the Market Square is about 150 metres (490 ft). The center includes Finnkino's Scala cinema, gym, Restaurant Taikuri and bowling alley Keilakukko. The center covers an area of about 9,000 m2 (97,000 sq ft). IsoCee was opened on Friday, May 17, 2013, next to the Minna Shopping Center.
Hatsala is a district located west of the center of Kuopio, Finland. The eastern boundary of the area is Puistokatu, the southern boundary is Minna Canthin katu and the northern is the Kuopio motorway. The western border first runs along Sairaalakatu and Niiralankatu. From the intersection of Suokatu, the border first runs north, then turns west and passes through the Savonia railway line to the motorway. The border leaves Mustinlammi on the Niirala side and on the Hatsala side of the swimming hall and Kuopio Hall.
