Kurian Kachappilly, born 6 July 1955, at Mallussery, [1] in Kerala, India, is a Catholic priest of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) order, and a professor of philosophy, religion and Business Ethics. [2]

Biography

Kachappilly was ordained a priest on 6 May 1986. [3] Kachappilly was the President of the Pontifical Athenaeum, Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, DVK (1918-2022). At present, he is the Coordinator of International Relations, DVK, Bangalore, India. He holds a Master's degree in English Literature (M.Lit), Master's in Psychology (MA), Licentiate in Philosophy (L.Ph), and PhD in Philosophy (K.U. Leuven, Belgium).

Later career

Kachappilly is a professor of philosophy, religion and management at Vidya Kshetram and Christ University, both in Bangalore, India. He is the author of several books, including Mysticism without Bounds and Mystic Musing in World Religions. His most popular books include "God of Love" and "Between Partners". Kachappilly studied philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram. During 1992-1996, he earned a Licentiate and PhD in philosophy from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, University of Leuven, Belgium. [2] He is a well-known organizer of international conferences, like 7th International Whitehead Conference, Christ University, Bangalore; [4]

Major contributions

Kachappilly was the chief organizer of the International Process Philosophy Congress in Bangalore (2009). [5] About 500 philosophers and intellectuals from Asia, Africa, Europe and United States attended this seventh international conference, jointly organized by Dharmaram College, Bangalore, Christ University, Bangalore and International Process Network (IPN).

The second major conference was on "Mysticism without Bounds" (2011), and the Chief Guest was the Dalai Lama; and "Bounds of Ethics in a Globalized World" (2014), in which delegates and representatives from seventy plus countries took part.

The latest International Conference was on "Harmony: Interface of Cosmic, Ethical and Religious Orders" (2019), jointly organized by Christ University and DVK, Bangalore, India.

He is a scientist, philosopher and theologian.

The Teape Lectures were established at Cambridge University in 1955. They form the major activity of the Teape Trust, created from an endowment made posthumously by William Marshall Teape. The object of the trust is 'The advancement of education by the provision of lectures on the relationship between Christian and Hindu thought and subject thereto the study of Christian and Hindu religious thought and the promotion of Christian-Hindu relations'.

Thomas Aykara CMI is the rector of Dharmaram College in Bengaluru, India. He is a Catholic priest of the Syro-Malabar Church. He joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI)Carmelites of Mary Immaculate congregation, St. Joseph's Province Kottayam in 1954. He is a philosopher, theologian and religious. He is a scholar, teacher, author and thinker. Several academic centres in India and abroad originated through the efforts of Thomas Aykara.

Jose Nandhikkara CMI is a professor of philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram and Christ University, both in Bangalore, India. He is the author of several books including Environmental Interface: Literature, Law, Science, Philosophy and Ethical Interface: Literature, Economics, Politics, Religion.

There are three kinds of Seminaries in India:

Osthathios Pathros was an Indian Syriac Orthodox bishop, and Metropolitan of Bangalore Diocese. He belonged to the Pulikottil family of Kunnamkulam. He took the initiative in the formation of Coimbatore Christian Ecumenical Fellowship.

Saju Chackalackal is an Indian author and professor of Philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram Bangalore. He is also a Catholic religious priest of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate Congregation. He is a Kantian scholar who obtained a PhD from Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas Rome. He was the former chief editor of the Journal of Dharma. He has authored many books and articles. He was instrumental in preparing a number of course materials for Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi. He was elected as the Provincial of CMI Preshitha Province, Coimbatore. He continues the title for the second term too.
