Kurram Garhi is a small village located near the city of Bannu, which is the part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Its population is approximately 35000. Barren hills are near this village. This village is on the border of Kurram Agency. Other nearby villages are Peppal, Surwangi and Amandi Kala.

Culture

The people of Kurram Garhi wear Shalwar-Kameez regional dress, with different designs for women. They construct houses of mud. All the people eat regional food like Dodi, Saag and other vegetables. They also eat fish, chicken, beef and mutton. They drink Lassi, the region's most energetic drink[ according to whom? ].

Hydel powerhouse

In the neighbourhood, Kurram Garhi Hydropower Plant produces 4 megawatts (5,400 hp). [1] Four turbines are installed on the Kachkot canal from the Kurram River. [1] This powerhouse produces electricity for the people of this village as well as also for related villages. The station began operating in February 1958 with Average Annual generating capacity of 17 million units (GWh) of least expensive electricity. [1]

Filtration plant

In the vicinity of the village is a big water treatment plant that purifies water from the Kurram River. The water is purified for the whole village. The pure water then flows from Kurram Garhi to Bannu (approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi)). The pure water is stored in a huge tank located in Tanchi Bazar.

Graveyard

Kurram Garhi contains a large graveyard which is used by the neighbouring villages. Graves may be 20 to 25 feet (6.1 to 7.6 m) long.[ non sequitur ] The graves are at Baba Sahab.[ further explanation needed ]

Kurram River

Kurram River originates from watershed of Koh e sofaid in Kurram District, flows through North Waziristan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan and joins River Indus near Isa Khel. It drains the southern flanks of the Spin Ghar mountain range and is a right bank tributary of the Indus River.

Gomal Zam Dam is a multi-purpose gravity dam in South Waziristan Tribal District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The dam impounds the Gomal River, a tributary of the Indus River, at Khjori Kach, where the Gomal River passes through a narrow ravine. The purpose of the dam is irrigation, flood control and hydroelectric power generation. Construction of the dam began in August 2001 and was completed in April 2011. The powerhouse was completed in March 2013 and electricity production started in August 2013. The dam was officially inaugurated on 12 September 2013 by Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, along with the US Ambassador Richard G. Olson and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah Khan.

Mangla Cantonment is an army garrison near Mangla Dam in Dina Jhelum District of Pakistan. The town of Mangla and Mangla dam are located across the Jhelum river in Pakistan administered Kashmir. During the construction of Mangla Dam, the area belonging to the villages of Baral, Baruti, Thill and Sultanpur was evacuated to build residential colonies and offices. After the departure of foreign contractors and their families in late 1969, the area changed hands from WAPDA to the army and was finally made a cantonment known as "Mangla Cantonment." Electricity in Pakistan is generated, transmitted, distributed, and retail supplied by two vertically integrated public sector companies, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for all of Pakistan, and the Karachi Electric (K-Electric) for the city of Karachi and its surrounding areas. There are around 42 independent power producers (IPPs) that contribute significantly in electricity generation in Pakistan.

Crane Conservation Center and Wildlife Park, Lakki Marwat is a conservation center for the captive breeding of various types of wild birds and animal species. It is located west of Kurram River in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, 250 kilometres (155 mi) south of Peshawar. It was established in 2007. The center is equipped with a total of 15 circular aviaries and 20 cages as well as an education block for visitors. The center is now maintained and operated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department through the Bannu Wildlife Division, Bannu while its establishment was funded by WWF - Pakistan, GEF, UNDP and Darwin Initiative. A "Range Officer" of the wildlife department manages and co-ordinates the activities of the park. A wildlife vet, Dr. Adnan Khan, frequently visits the center in order to maintain healthy stock.
