Kurt Mattix (born September 9, 1975) is an American football coach and former football player. He is currently the defensive ends coach at Ohio University [1] Previously he was the defensive coordinator at San Diego State and Eastern Kentucky. [2]
Mattix is an alumnus of the Valparaiso where he played college football from 1996 to 1998 and received his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1999. [3] Previously he played football for two seasons at the University of Indianapolis from 1994 to 1995. [4]
Mattix's first coaching position was as an assistant at Portage High School in Indiana from 1998 to 1998. [5] He was the special teams coordinator and linebacker's coach at Trine University in 1999 and Anderson University in 2000. [6] His first FBS coaching job was as a Graduate Assistant at Ball State from 2002 through 2003. [7] He spent the next four seasons at Wayne State University where he had is first position as a defensive coordinator during the last three seasons from 2005 to 2007. He returned to the state of Indiana as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Saint Joseph's College for one year in 2008. [8] He returned to Ball State as the tight ends coach for two seasons before joining Brady Hoke's staff as a quality control assistant at Michigan from 2011 to 2014. [9] [10]
After Hoke was fired he went back to his alma mater as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Valparaiso in 2015 before getting his first NCAA Division I coordinator job at Eastern Kentucky from 20016 through 2019. [11] [12] He rejoined with Hoke as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at San Diego State from 2020 to 2023. [13] [14] His defenses ranked 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 8th in the Mountain West Conference from 2020 to 2023 respectively. [15] [16] [17] [18] After the 2020 season he was nominated for the Broyles Award for the best assistant coach in the nation. [19] [20] Prior to the 2024 season he accepted the position as defensive ends coach at Ohio University [21] [22]
Charles Franklin Long Jr. is an American football coach and former player who is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Arlington Renegades of the United Football League (UFL). He played as a quarterback in college for the Iowa Hawkeyes under coach Hayden Fry and professionally with the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. After his professional career, Long was an assistant coach at Iowa and Oklahoma before serving as the head football coach for the San Diego State Aztecs. Long also held a position as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas Jayhawks under head coach Turner Gill. Long is the CEO and executive director of the Iowa Sports Foundation, the organization that runs the Iowa Games, the Senior Games, Adaptive Sports Iowa, Iowa Corporate Games and the Live Healthy Iowa challenge, as well as an analyst for the Big Ten Network.
Roderick John Long Jr. is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the defensive coordinator at Syracuse. Prior to being hired by Syracuse, Long was the defensive coordinator at New Mexico. He played professionally with BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Detroit Wheels of World Football League (WFL).
James Herrmann is an American football coach and former player. He is currently head coach of the Raiders Tirol in the European League of Football. Prior to that, he was linebackers coach for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) and the Bowling Green Falcons football team. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 1980 to 1982 and served as an assistant football coach at Michigan from 1985 to 2005, including nine years as defensive coordinator from 1997 to 2005. After the 1997 Michigan Wolverines football team won the national championship, Herrmann received the Frank Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in the nation. He also served as the New York Jets' linebackers coach from 2006 to 2008. He was Defensive Coordinator for the New York Guardians and for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL.
Greg Mattison is a former American football coach, and former player. He spent most of his career in college football as a defensive coach. Mattison coached at Michigan for eleven years, at Notre Dame for seven years, at Florida for three years, including the 2006 national championship team, and at Ohio State for two years. He also served as a defensive assistant for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL.
Stanley Paul Parrish Jr. was an American football coach and player. He was the head coach at Ball State University from 2009 to 2010. Parrish was previously the head coach at Wabash College, Kansas State and Marshall University. He was an offensive coordinator at Ball State and the University of Michigan, and had a lengthy career working primarily with quarterbacks.

Alan Anthony Borges is an American football coach. Borges is known for quarterback development having mentored Cade McNown and Jason Campbell, both first round NFL draft picks. Borges has been described as "one of the best offensive coordinators I've ever seen," by former Auburn head coach Pat Dye.
Jonathan David Hoke is an American football coach who is the Passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Maryland, College Park from 2019 to 2020 and also served as the defensive backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans.
Ronald Allen Caragher is an American former college football coach. He was previously the head coach at the University of San Diego and San Jose State. Originally from Morgan Hill, California, Caragher played college football at UCLA and later became an assistant coach for UCLA football, first as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1995, then as wide receivers coach from 1996 to 2002. From 2003 to 2006, Caragher served as running backs coach for Kentucky and was part of the 2006 Music City Bowl championship coaching staff.
Lanear Sampson is an American college football coach and former Canadian football player. He is the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for San Diego State University; a position he has held since 2024. He also coached for Syracuse, Missouri State, McNeese, UCF, and Austin Peay. The Aztecs were led by eighth-year head coach Rocky Long and played their home games at SDCCU Stadium. San Diego State was a member of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 7–6, 4–4 in Mountain West play to finish in fourth place in the West Division. They were invited to the Frisco Bowl where they lost to Ohio.
