The Kuwait Metropolitan Rapid Transit System Project was a plan to build a rapid transit network in Kuwait. [1] The project, which had been in the planning stages since the 2000's, was officially cancelled in 2023 due to a lack of funds. [2] [3]
The project was supposed to have been implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) under the management of the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), [1] [4] where the government would have owned 10% of the project and raised 50% of the funds through an initial public offer. [1] The remaining 40% would have been held by the private developer. [1]
In 2023, the Supreme Committee of the KAPP decided to cancel the Kuwait Metro project. This decision, ratified by the Authority's Board of Directors and endorsed by Amiri Diwan, was prompted by the project's substantial administrative and financial burdens on public funds, amounting to KD 2,152,000, as highlighted by the Audit Bureau. Four lines were planned to be built [6] in five phases, with a total of 160 kilometres (99 mi) with 68 stations. [7] [8]
As a small country, local transport in Kuwait is largely road-based with one car for every 2.25 people. Bus services make up Kuwait's entire public transport network. There are seven airports in Kuwait, the largest of which and solely allocated for civil use is Kuwait International Airport. The Gulf Railway is currently under planning in Kuwait. The metro for Kuwait City is currently in the design phase. Kuwait has several maritime ports along the coast of the Persian Gulf, the largest port is Mubarak Al Kabeer Port which is currently under construction.
The Tren Urbano is a 10.7-mile (17.2 km) automated rapid transit system that serves the municipalities of San Juan, Guaynabo, and Bayamón, in Puerto Rico. The Tren Urbano consists of 16 stations operating on 10.7 miles (17.2 km) of track along a single line. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,738,100, or about 10,200 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
METRORail is the 22.7-mile (36.5 km) light rail system in Houston, Texas. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 13,883,700, or about 42,900 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023. METRORail ranks as the second most-traveled light rail system in the Southern United States and the 12th most-traveled light rail system in the United States, and has the highest ridership per mile for light rail systems in the Southern US. Kaohsiung Metro is a rapid transit and light rail system covering the metropolitan area of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its rapid transit network is known as Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit or Kaohsiung MRT. Construction of the MRT started in October 2001. The MRT opened in 2008 and the Circular light rail in 2015. Kaohsiung Metro is operated by the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation under a BOT contract the company signed with the Kaohsiung City Government.
The Tel Aviv Light Rail, Arabic: دانكال تل أبيب للسكك الحديدية الخفيفة, Romanized: Dankal Tall ʾAbīb Lilsīkak Al-hadidiat Al-khāfifa also known as Dankal is a mass transit system for Gush Dan, the Tel Aviv metropolitan area in central Israel. The system will include different modes of mass transit, including rapid transit (metro), light rail transit (LRT), and bus rapid transit (BRT). Overseen by NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd., a government agency, the project will complement the intercity and suburban rail network operated by Israel Railways.

The Metro Orange Line is a bus rapid transit line in the Twin Cities, Minnesota operated by Metro Transit. The line operates primarily along Interstate 35W from downtown Minneapolis through Richfield and Bloomington before terminating in Burnsville, Minnesota. The Orange Line provides access to 198,000 jobs with roughly a quarter of them outside downtown Minneapolis. The route serves a mix of stations located in the center of the highway, stations near highway exits, and on-street stations. The line has features typical of bus rapid transit systems with off-board fare payment, articulated buses with extra doors, stations with improved passenger amenities, and transit-only bus lanes on portions of the route.
Lagos Rail Mass Transit is a rapid transit system in Lagos State. The rail system is managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The railway equipment including electric power, signals, rolling stock, and fare collection equipment will be provided by the private sector under a concession contract. LAMATA is responsible for policy direction, regulation, and infrastructure for the network. The first section of the network, Phase I of the Blue Line, was originally planned to be completed in 2011, though the construction has suffered many delays caused by shortage of funds and change of government. The Blue Line opened on September 4, 2023 and the Red Line opened on February 29, 2024.

The Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project is a two-phased planned transit corridor project that aims to connect the Los Angeles Basin to the San Fernando Valley through Sepulveda Pass in Los Angeles, California, by supplementing the existing I-405 freeway through the pass. The corridor would partly parallel I-405, and proposed alternatives include heavy rail rapid transit or a monorail line connecting the G Line in the Valley to the D Line and E Line on the Westside, and the K Line near Los Angeles International Airport.
Pune is a city in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is situated in western Maharashtra on the Deccan Plateau. Pune's public transport consists primarily of a bus service, a suburban rail service, metro, public taxis and auto rickshaws. In 2020 it was awarded the Sustainable Transport Award.
LAX/Metro Transit Center station is an under construction light rail transport hub in the Los Angeles Metro Rail system, located near Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street in the Westchester district of Los Angeles. The station was designed as a station for the C and K lines. It will serve as the transfer point between Metro Rail and the LAX Automated People Mover (APM) serving the Los Angeles International Airport terminals and facilities. Additionally, the station will have connections to Metro Bus, other municipal bus lines, a customer service center, and a Metro Bike Share hub. Metro is scheduled to start serving the station in late 2024 before the APM connection opens in 2025.
The Southeast Gateway Line, formerly the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor, is a planned light rail line, mostly following the Pacific Electric's historic West Santa Ana Branch, connecting Downtown Los Angeles to the city of Artesia, along with other cities in southeastern Los Angeles County.
The Inglewood Transit Connector Project is a proposed 1.6-mile (2.6 km) fully elevated, automated people mover system in Inglewood, California, that will connect the Downtown Inglewood station on the K Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system to the major sports and entertainment venues in the city: Kia Forum, SoFi Stadium, Hollywood Park Casino and the under-construction Intuit Dome. The project was planned to break ground in 2024 and begin operations in late 2027, ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics that will use some of the venues. However, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) currently reports that the transit connector will not open for revenue service until early 2030.
The Cairo Monorail is a two-line monorail rapid transit system currently under construction in Cairo and is projected to become the longest driverless monorail system in the world. The two lines will create the first public transport from the New Administrative Capital and 6th of October City to the Cairo metropolitan area when completed. The expected travel time for the 53km Line between the New Administrative City and East Cairo is about 60 minutes and the 42km line connecting 6th of October City with Giza is about 42 minutes.
