Kwagalana Group is a members only group of richest businessmen and women in Uganda. Together, the group led by Godfrey Kirumira was estimated to be worth over UGX1,000 billion/USD272 million in 2009. [1] The group was started in 2002 [2] by a group of rich men, but the membership has since grown to include several businessmen like Sudhir Ruparelia of Ruparelia Group Joseph Magandaazi Yiga Hamis Kiggundu [3] among several other rich Ugandans. The Kwagalana Group is known for its work of philanthropy by its members. [7] The members of the group have been known to contribute to the communities and the country's development through business and charity. Sudhir Ruparelia [8] in particular has a foundation [9] has benefited several children and women. [10]
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Kwagalana Group donated a pickup truck to the health ministry to help transport materials to different health facilities. This followed a call for donations from Yoweri Museveni [11] [12] Members also made individual contributions to the same cause. [12]
Members of Kwagalana Group own several businesses in Uganda, including hotels, Fuel Companies, Schools, Real Estate Companies mong others. These include; Kirumira's Bargary Company Limited deals in fuel, and Sudhir's hotels, apartments, schools etc. Other members of Kwagalana Group include Joseph Magandaazi Yiga the proprietor Steel and Tube Industries [13] Dr Sarah Nkonge, who owns several arcades in Kampala and Jinja. She was also the first woman to be appointed Kampala City Mayor. [14] Mr Ben Kavuya, the Proprietor Legacy Group [15] [16] and Hamis Kiggundu the proprietor Ham Enterprises, among other members.
Hamz Stadium, formerly referred to as Nakivubo Stadium at Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds, is a multi-purpose stadium in Kampala, Uganda. Following extensive renovations led by businessman Hamis Kiggundu in partnership with the Ugandan government, the stadium has been upgraded to international standards. It is slated to host significant events like AFCON2027 and CHAN 2024. which will mark a new chapter in Uganda's sporting and community landscape. It was previously used mostly for football matches and served as the home venue of SC Villa. In the 2024/2025 season, two Uganda premier league clubs URA FC and Express FC used Hamz stadium as their home ground.The stadium had a capacity of about 21,000 people, but upon partial completion of the renovations started in 2017, President Museveni commissioned the stadium on 25 April 2024. It will have a total seating capacity of 35,000 people upon final completion.
Crane Bank Limited was a commercial bank in Uganda licensed and supervised by the Bank of Uganda (BOU), the central bank and national banking regulator.
