Kwale District

Kwale District was an administrative district in the Coast Province of Kenya. Its capital town was Kwale, although Msambweni and Ukunda are larger. The district was created by the colonial government, making it one of the original districts of Kenya.

The district had a population of 496,133. [1]

Kwale is mainly an inland district, but it has coastline south of Mombasa. Diani Beach is part of the Msambweni division. Shimba Hills National Reserve and Mwaluganje elephant sanctuary are other attractions in the district.

In 2013, Kilifi District was scrapped and replaced with Kilifi County, a devolved form of administration in line with the 2010 constitution of Kenya.

Malindi District was a former administrative district in the Coast Province of Kenya. Its capital was the coastal town of Malindi. When it was eliminated and merged into Kilifi County in 2010, the district had a population of 544,303. Malindi Town is increasingly becoming known as Kenya’s version of "Little Italy". Italians now own more than 2,500 properties, and the number of Italian residents in Malindi town and its environs, estimated at slightly over 3,000, is the largest European population compared to other European populations anywhere in Kenya.

Ukunda Airport is a small airfield near Diani Beach in Kwale County, Kenya. The airport serves the local areas of Diani, Tiwi and Msambweni.

Msambweni in Swahili) is a small fishing town and constituency in Kwale County of southeastern Kenya, formerly in Kwale District of Coast Province. The origin of the name, Msambwe is a hardy and wild fruits tree indigenous to Msambweni. A few remnants of the Msambwe trees are still existing at Mkunguni Beach, Sawa Sawa Village. By road, Msambweni is 55.4 kilometres (34.4 mi) south of Mombasa and 46.5 kilometres (28.9 mi) northeast of Lunga Lunga on the Tanzanian border. As of 2009, the town had a population of 11,985 people.

Ukunda is a coastal town in the southern part of Mombasa. It paves way into Diani Beach, a major tourist attraction.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sub-Counties of Kenya</span>

Sub-counties are the decentralised units through which county governments of Kenya will provide functions and services. Except for the parts which fall under urban areas, sub-counties will coincide with the constituencies created under article 89 of the Constitution of Kenya. Sub-counties will be headed by a sub-county administrator, appointed by a County Public Service Board.

Ramisi is a small town and ward in the Msambweni Constituency of Kwale County, southeastern Kenya, close to the Tanzanian border. A sugar processing factory is located in Ramisi, named the Kwale International Sugar Factory. Ramisi also has several schools. The Ramisi river flows to the west of the town.

Kilifi District was an administrative district in the Coast Province of Kenya. Its capital is coastal town Kilifi. The district had a population of 281,552.

The Koromojo Dam, also known as the Mwambe Dam, refers to two embankment dams on the Mwabanda River north of Msambweni in southeastern Kenya. The Upper Koromojo Dam was built in the 1920s while the Lower Koromojo Dam was completed by Associated Sugar in 1957.

Chale Island is a headland rather than an island, located at the northern end of Msambweni Bay in Kwale County in southeastern Kenya. Originally, "Chale" was the name of a Digo warrior. Chale was buried on this island after passing away. Chale Island is known as a sacred kaya by the locals.

Kwale International Sugar Company Limited (KISCOL), is a sugar manufacturer in Kenya.
