The Kyiv Classic Orchestra is a non-governmental orchestra based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Its current conductor and music director is Herman Makarenko. The orchestra is administered by The Kyiv Classic Corporation. The French agency NS (Nord Service) Organisation administered the orchestra's international tour in 2006.
The orchestra, which ranges in size from 10 to 12 players chamber orchestra to 60 players symphony orchestra, usually performs at The National Opera of Ukraine or The National House of Organ and Chamber Music of Ukraine. In 2006 the orchestra travelled to France, Belgium, and Italy. On 9 March 2022, as Russian forces advanced on Kyiv during the Russo-Ukrainian War, members of the orchestra played a short concert in Independence Square. [1]
Mykola Vitaliyovych Lysenko was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor and ethnomusicologist of the late Romantic period. In his time he was the central figure of Ukrainian music, with an oeuvre that includes operas, art songs, choral works, orchestral and chamber pieces, and a wide variety of solo piano music. He is often credited with founding a national music tradition during the Ukrainian national revival, in the vein of contemporaries such as Grieg in Norway, The Five in Russia as well as Smetana and Dvořák in what is now the Czech Republic.

He graduated from Kharkiv Music College in 1969 and from Kharkiv Conservatory in 1975, where he studied with Regina Horowitz, sister of Vladimir Horowitz. in 1978 he received the Post Graduate Diploma at Kiev Conservatory, Ukraine and in 1981 completed Advanced Studies at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Russia. From 1975 to 1998 Sergei Polusmiak was teaching at Kharkiv Conservatory and at the Kharkiv Special Music School for Gifted Children Sergei Polusmiak started his professional career as a music educator and as a concert pianist by teaching, giving master classes, playing solo piano recitals, chamber music recitals and as a soloist with symphony orchestras. For his contribution as a concert pianist Sergei Polusmiak was awarded the title of "Merited Artist of Ukraine" by the President of Ukraine. in 1996 Sergei Polusmiak became a Full Professor of piano at Kharkiv Institute of Arts.
