L. Randolph Lowry III,also known as Randy Lowry, [3] (born 1951/1952) is an American academic administrator. He was the President of Lipscomb University in Nashville,Tennessee from 2005 to 2021. [4]
Lowry was born in Oregon and grew up in Long Beach,California. [1] [5] He graduated with a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in public administration from Pepperdine University. [5] He obtained his J.D. from Hamline University. [1] [5]
Lowry started his career by working in the president's office at both Hamline University and Willamette University. [1] From 1986 onwards,he taught law at Pepperdine University,where he established the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. [1] [5] [6] He has also taught at Vermont Law School,the City University of Hong Kong,Shantou University in Beijing,China,Bond University in Gold Coast,Australia,Hamline University in Saint Paul,Minnesota,and the University of Modena in Modena,Italy. In 2005,Lowry became President of Lipscomb University. [5] [1] In September 2017,he apologized after hosting a dinner at his home for African-American students where the menu was "mac n cheese,collard greens,corn bread" [7] and the centerpieces "contained stalks of cotton," [3] [8] a symbol of slavery in the United States.
Lowry and his wife,Rhonda, [2] live in Nashville. They have three children together. [5]
Lipscomb University is a private university in Nashville,Tennessee. It is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. The campus is located in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville,between Belmont Boulevard to the west and Granny White Pike on the east. Total student enrollment for the fall 2022 semester was 4,704,which included 2,955 undergraduate students and 1,749 graduate students.
Collard is a group of certain loose-leafed cultivars of Brassica oleracea,the same species as many common vegetables including cabbage and broccoli. Collard is generally described as part of the Acephala (kale) cultivar group,but gets its own variety as Brassica oleracea var. viridis. The name "collard" comes from the word "colewort".
Allen Arena is an indoor arena at Lipscomb University in Nashville,Tennessee. The arena was named in honor of James C. and Linda Allen,the facility's primary benefactors. James Allen is a member of the board of trustees for the university and worked for the university at one time. The arena is primarily used for basketball and volleyball athletic events and is also used for daily chapel services and occasional concerts.
John Rich is an American country music singer-songwriter. From 1992 to 1998,he was a member of the country band Lonestar,in which he played bass guitar and alternated with Richie McDonald as lead vocalist. After departing from the band in 1998,he embarked on a solo career on BNA Records in the late 1990s,releasing two singles for the label and recording Underneath the Same Moon,which was not released until 2006. In 2001,he self-released Rescue Me,an album he was inspired to record by a cancer patient named Katie Darnell. By 2003,he joined Big Kenny to form the duo Big &Rich,who released three albums on Warner Bros. Records as well as ten singles,including the Number One "Lost in This Moment". After Big &Rich went on hiatus in 2007,Rich began work on a third solo album,Son of a Preacher Man,which has produced two more chart singles. In 2011,Rich released two extended plays,Rich Rocks and For the Kids,before re-establishing Big &Rich in 2012.

Dr. Charles Richard Brewer (1890–1971) was a notable professor,preacher,poet,and leader for the churches of Christ. Born in near Gimlet Creek in Giles County,Tennessee,Brewer's career included many publications,television and radio shows,and a reputation for biblical learning. His funeral in Nashville,TN,was attended by some 3,000 people. Brewer was named "Speaker of the Year" in his final year and eventually a "Lipscomb Legend" by the university. He was scheduled to speak at Pepperdine University,in April of his last year,where he was to receive the school's annual Most Distinguished Service Award. A belltower that was built on the campus of Lipscomb University in 1935 was dedicated to the memory of Charles R. Brewer after his death,and in 2022 it continues to bear his name.

Beth Halteman Harwell is a member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority and the former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives. She served as State Representative for Nashville and is a former chair of the Tennessee Republican Party. First elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1988,Harwell served as a Republican Minority Whip and Commerce Committee chair before being elected to the Speakership. She is the first woman to serve as Tennessee's Speaker of the House. In 2017,she announced her candidacy for governor of Tennessee in the 2018 election.
The Lipscomb Bisons baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of Lipscomb University in Nashville,Tennessee,United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and is a member of the ASUN Conference.
The State Fair Classic is an annual college football game between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Prairie View A&M University Panthers of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The game is played on a neutral site at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park,Dallas,Texas during the State Fair of Texas. He served as president of Pepperdine University from 1971 to 1978,then as president of the University of Oklahoma from 1978 to 1982 when he resigned to become President of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. In 1983,Banowsky returned as OU president and served for two more years. Banowsky was also a member of the Republican National Committee for the state of California from 1973 to 1975.

She served as the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education from 2015 to 2019.
