Lachlan Walmsley (born 12 June 1998) is a Scotland international rugby league footballer who plays as a winger and fullback for Wakefield Trinity in the Betfred Championship.
He previously played for Halifax in the 2022 RFL Championship and Whitehaven in Betfred League 1. [3]
Walmsley was born in Merriwa, New South Wales, Australia. He is of Scottish descent. [4]
He came through the youth system at the Newcastle Knights and reserve grade for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and played for New South Wales under 18s in the State of Origin at youth level. [5] [6] [7]
Walmsley was the top point scorer for Whitehaven in their 2021 season. [8] [9]
He joined Halifax ahead of the 2022 season and was the top try-scorer for the Panthers in their 2022 season [10] and named (jointly with Dean Parata) as the 2023 Championship Player of the Year at the RFL annual awards. [11]
On 7 November 2023, it was reported that he had signed for Wakefield Trinity in the RFL Championship on a two-year deal. [12]
In 2021 Walmsley made his international début for Scotland against Jamaica. [13] [14]
In 2022 Walmsley was named in the Scotland squad for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, [15] scoring his first try for Scotland in the 28-4 defeat to Italy on 16 October 2022.[ citation needed ]

In the 2023 rugby league season, Featherstone Rovers competed in the RFL Championship and the Challenge Cup. In the Championship, Featherstone won the League Leaders' Shield having lost only two regular season games, but suffered a 36-22 upset in the play-off semi-final against London Broncos.
In the 2022 rugby league season York City Knights competed in the 2022 RFL Championship and the 2022 Challenge Cup. At the start of the season the club was taken over by Clint Goodchild who became the new chairman. York had a strong first half of the season which included a run of seven wins in the league that helped them finish in sixth place to qualify for the play-offs despite winning only five of their final 11 games. They lost in the semi-finals to Leigh Centurions who earlier in the season inflicted a club record 100–4 defeat on York. In the Challenge Cup York reached the fifth round. It was the final season that the team played as York City Knights after which the club was renamed York RLFC and the team became the Knights.
