Lady Franklinfjorden is a fjord in Gustav V Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. The fjord has a length of about 25 kilometers. Lady Franklinfjorden is named after Jane Franklin, the wife of Arctic explorer John Franklin. [1] [2]
Wahlenbergfjorden, sometimes known in English as Waalenburg Bay, is a fjord on the southwest coast of the Arctic island of Nordaustlandet, in Norway's Svalbard archipelago. At 46 kilometres (29 mi) in length, and 15 km (9.3 mi) wide, it is the fifth longest fjord in the archipelago, and the longest on the island. The fjord separates Gustav V Land in the north from Gustav Adolf Land in the south, at geographical co-ordinates 79°40′N20°00′E. Its mouth faces Spitsbergen across Hinlopen Strait, the strait separating the two islands.
Indre Wijdefjorden National Park is located in a steep fjord landscape in northern Spitsbergen in Svalbard, Norway. It covers the inner part of Wijdefjorden—the longest fjord on Svalbard. The national park was established on 9 September 2005 and covers 1,127 km2 (435 sq mi), of which 745 km2 (288 sq mi) is on land and 382 km2 (147 sq mi) is sea. The marine environment changes vastly from the mouth of the fjord, through a still, cold, water basin, becoming deeper before reaching the glacier Mittag-Lefflerbreen at the inner-most sections of the fjord.
Gustav V Land is a land area comprising the peninsula on the northwestern part of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard in Arctic Norway. It constitutes roughly one quarter of the island's area, approximately 4000 km2, being some 80 km wide east–west and 85 km north–south, connected to the rest of the island by a 22-km-wide isthmus in the southeast. The peninsula is bordered to the south by Wahlenbergfjorden, to the west by Hinlopen Strait and Hinlopenrenna, to the north by Nordkappsundet, and to the east by Nordenskiöldbukta and Rijpfjorden. Gustav Adolf Land is to the south and Prins Oscars Land is to the east. The boundary of Gustav V Land passes through Rijpdalen and Flaumdalen to Winsnesbreen in the east, continues further southwest to Brånevatnet, and thence follows the river from Brånevatnet to the sea at Bodleybukta. The highest elevation is 630 metres (2,070 ft) on the glacier Vestfonna, which covers large parts of the land.
St. Jonsfjorden is a fjord in Oscar II Land at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It has a length of 21 kilometer, and opens westwards into the strait of Forlandsundet. Several glaciers debouche into the fjord, including Gaffelbreen and Konowbreen from the north, a merge of Osbornebreen, Devikbreen, Vintervegen, Paulbreen and Bukkebreen at the bottom, and Vegardbreen, Charlesbreen and Bullbreen from the south.
Nordfjorden is a northern branch of the fjord Isfjorden at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It is located between Bohemanneset and Kapp Thordsen, and branches further into the fjords Ekmanfjorden and Dicksonfjorden. The 30 kilometer long glacier Sveabreen debouches into the fjord.
Klinckowströmfjorden is the eastern branch of Raudfjorden at Spitsbergen, Svalbard, on the divide between Albert I Land and Haakon VII Land. It is named after Swedish zoologist Axel Klinckowström. The glacier Raudfjordbreen debouches into the fjord. The peninsula Buchananhalvøya separates Klinckowströmfjorden from the western fjord branch Ayerfjorden. The mountain Ben Nevis is located southeast of the fjord.
Adlersparrefjorden is a fjord of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, an eastern branch of Duvefjorden at the northern coast. It has a length of about 10 kilometers, and has three branches. A land tongue of 0.5 kilometers separates the fjord from Finn Malmgren Fjord at the eastern side of Glenhalvøya. Adlersparrefjorden is named after naval officer Axel Adlersparre.
Finn Malmgren Fjord is a fjord in Orvin Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, between Glenhalvøya and Bergstrømodden. A land tongue of 0.5 kilometers separates the fjord from Adlersparrefjorden. Finn Malmgrenfjorden is named after Arctic explorer Finn Malmgren.
Glenhalvøya is a peninsula in Orvin Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, between Finn Malmgren Fjord and Duvefjorden. It is named after Arctic explorer Alexander Richard Glen. The island of Søre Repøya is separated from the peninsula by the strait of Gilessundet.
Bockfjorden is a fjord in Haakon VII Land at Spitsbergen, Svalbard, at the western side of Woodfjorden. Bockfjorden is named after Arctic explorer Franz-Karl von Bock. At the western side of the fjord is the inactive volcano Sverrefjellet.
Murchisonfjorden is a fjord in Gustav V Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. The fjord cuts eastwards from Hinlopen Strait into Nordaustlandet. It has steep coasts and numerous islands. Murchisonfjorden is named after British geologist Roderick Murchison.
Brennevinsfjorden is a fjord in Gustav V Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. The fjord has a length of about eleven nautical miles, and runs in between Depotodden and Kapp Hansteen.
Zorgdragerfjorden is a fjord at the northern coast of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, west of Platenhalvøya, in Prins Oscars Land. The fjord is named after Dutch captain Cornelis Gisbertsz Zorgdrager.
Ekstremfjorden is a fjord at the northern coast of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, east of Laponiahalvøya. It mouths into the western part of Nordenskiöldbukta.
Bergströmodden is a headland in Orvin Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. It is located north of the mountain Boydfjellet, at the mouth of Finn Malmgren Fjord, east of Alpini Island. The headland is named after Swedish politician Axel Bergström.
Samarinbreen is a glacier in Sørkapp Land at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It has a length of 14 mi (23 km), and is the northern branch of Mefonna. The glacier debouches into Samarinvågen, a southern bay of the fjord Hornsund. The glacier is named after Samarin, the name of a craftsman, fisherman and member of Arctic expeditions between 1899 and 1902.
Storsteinhalvøya is a peninsula at the northwestern side of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. It is surrounded by Murchisonfjorden to the south, Franklinsundet to the north, and Lady Franklinfjorden to the northeast. The peninsula is almost free of glaciated areas, and contains some lakes. The nearly closed bay Claravågen is located at the western side, and Pentavika and Westmanbukta at the northern side.
Boydfjellet is a mountain in Orvin Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. It is located at the eastern side of Finn Malmgren Fjord, and has a height of 300 m.a.s.l. The mountain is named after American Arctic explorer Louise Arner Boyd.
Bjørnfjorden is a fjord in Albert I Land at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. The fjord is located between Reuschhalvøya and Vasahalvøya, and is an inner branch of Smeerenburgfjorden. Smeerenburgbreen debouches into the fjord. At the south side of the fjord are Scheibukta and St. Laurentiusbukta.
Franklinsundet is a strait between Storsteinhalvøya and Lågøya at the northern side of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. The eastern side of the strait leads into Lady Franklinfjorden, named after Jane Franklin.
