Laghman University (Persian : د لغمان پوهنتون) is a state university located in Mihtarlam, Laghman Province, in eastern Afghanistan. [1] It was established in 2011. Laghman University has 72 bachelor's and master's degree teachers in five faculties. [2]

Laghman is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. It has a population of about 502,148, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. Laghman hosts a large number of historical landmarks, minarets, monuments, and other cultural relics that are manifestation of its old history and culture. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the capital of the province. In some historical texts the name is written as "Lamghan" or as "Lamghanat".

Fazlullah Mujadedi also known as Abdul Hameed Mujadedi or Abdul Hameed Fazlullah Mujadedi was an Afghan politician in Afghanistan, previously serving as Governor of Logar, Laghman and Takhar provinces. He was one of the prominent commanders of Jamiat-e Islami during the 1980s Soviet–Afghan War. He was amongst the earliest generation of anti-Soviet fighters from Kabul University, which included Amin Wardak, Zabihullah of Marmul in Balkh and Ahmad Shah Massoud.

Nangarhar University is a government-funded higher learning institution in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. It is the second largest university in Afghanistan. It has 13 colleges and 15,385 students.

Kabul Polytechnic University is the main center of educating engineers in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was founded on 13 October 1963 as Kabul Polytechnic Institute and is located in 72 hectares of land in Karte Mamourin, North-Western Kabul. In the opening ceremony government officials from both Afghanistan and other countries were present. Since its establishment, it has been considered one of the important entities in providing education and training.

Alishing District is a district in Afghanistan, located 21 km from Mihtarlam, the provincial centre of Laghman Province. It has borders with Kabul and Kapisa provinces to the West, Dawlat Shah District to the North, Alingar District to the East and Mihtarlam District to the South. The district center is the village of Alishang, located on 34.7044°N 70.1539°E at 862 m altitude. There are 12 zones, each with around 12 to 14 villages located in the valleys and mountains. The Alishing river crosses the district and is the main source of irrigation.

Mihtarlam, also spelled Mehtar Lam, is the sixteenth-largest city of Afghanistan. It is the capital of Laghman Province and center of Mihtarlam District. It is the only large urban settlement in the province. The town is situated in the valley formed by the Alishang and Alingar rivers, 47 km northwest of the city of Jalalabad. There is a paved road between the cities that takes approximately one hour to travel by car.

Alberoni University is located in the small town of Kohistan, Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, about 64 km north of the capital Kabul. Alberoni University is a public institute of higher education, and was inaugurated in 1998 by the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education, Al Beroni University (AU) is a very small coeducational Afghan higher education institution. The university is named after Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, a renowned polymath scholar who lived in the 11th century. Al Beroni University (AU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. The AU beginning with a faculty of Medical and Engineering. It is the fifth largest university in Afghanistan after Kabul University, Nangarhar University, Balkh University and Herat University. The university has 9 faculties and 32 departments. The most popular fields of study is law, medicine and engineering.

Gul Pacha Ulfat was born in 1909 in Qarghayi District of Laghman Province, Afghanistan. Ulfat was a prominent poet and author of the Pashto language.

Lutfullah Mashal is a politician in Afghanistan who last served as spokesman for the National Directorate of Security (NDS). Prior to that he was Governor of Laghman province. He is also a writer and a poet.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fazal Haq Mujahid</span> Afghan political and military leader (1954-1997)

Fazal Haq Mujahid was an Afghan military and political leader against the Soviet Union. An active military and political involvement earned him a respected role in the country diverse political spectrum,but was very soon assassinated by unknown gunmen in late 1990s. He was considered to be one of the very few undisputed political leaders who fought the USSR invasion and wanted to carry the victory by establishing or helping to establish a government to solve the political crisis. Because of his efforts, Nangarhar saw an early and balanced administration amid the disagreeable and severe political situations in the country.

The 2013 Laghman earthquake occurred with magnitude of 5.6, with an epicenter 11 km from Mihtarlam, the capital of Afghanistan's eastern province of Laghman Province near Jalalabad at 09:25 UTC on April 24. The quake occurred below the surface at a moderate depth of 63.8 km. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Pakistan and India.

Jowzjan University is located in Jowzjan province, northern Afghanistan. Founded in 2002, Jawzjan University JU is a non-profit public higher-education University which is located in the Beautiful city of Sheberghan, Jowzjan. JU also provides several academic degrees which makes it one of the prestigious university in Afghanistan and a range of student around 7000 which has a key role contribution in academic research in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI) also known as ATVI, is a technical vocational institute in Afghanistan. ATVI is to provide market oriented technical and vocational training opportunities for Afghan youth.

Higher education in Afghanistan, including post-secondary education, known locally as third-level or tertiary education, falls under the Ministry of Higher Education which establishes government policies to reform higher education at Afghan universities.

The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.

Hafiz Sahar (1928–1982) was an academic scholar, educator, author, Fulbright Scholar, and Professor of Journalism in both Afghanistan and United States Universities. He was Editor-in-Chief of Eslah national newspaper of Afghanistan, Director of Broadcasting Radio Afghanistan, General Director of International Relations and Faculty of Department of Communications and Journalism and Department of Law in Kabul University. He was a champion of free speech/press and human rights as well as a strong advocate of bringing Television in Afghanistan.

Hajji Dunya Gul Niazi Jamia Masjid is a mosque in the city of Mihtarlam in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. Construction work on two mosques was launched in 2017. The second mosque opened in 2021 and has a capacity of 2,000 worshippers at a time. The two-story mosque includes an Islamic sciences training center.
