Lajedos Futebol Clube, then known as Lagedos Futebol Clube (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Lajedos Futebol Klubi) is a football club that currently plays in the Santo Antão Island League South Zone in Cape Verde. It is based in the village of Lajedos in the westcentral part of the island of Santo Antão.
The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.
Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).
Lajedo is a settlement in the southcentral part of the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. In 2010 its population was 558. It is situated in the valley of Ribeira das Patas, about 11 km west of the island capital Porto Novo. The settlement consists of several localities, including Ponte Sul, Lajedo proper and Vascona. The road from Porto Novo to Ribeira da Cruz in the north of the island passes through Lajedo.
The club's area serves the west of the parish of São João Batista.
São João Baptista is a freguesia of Cape Verde. It covers the larger, southern part of the municipality of Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antão.
The club was founded around the late 20th century.
Lagedos became an official registered club and a member of the Santo Antão South Zone Regional Football Association (ARFZSSA) in 2007. Alongside Fiorentina Porto Novo and Inter, they played their first match in 2008.
Lajedos once formed one of two westernmost clubs in the whole of Africa (the mainland and the islands). It was the only club in the area until 2014 when Tarrafal FC de Monte Trigo based in the west started to compete.
Lajedos did not participate in 2012 and in 2014 due to financial problems. They have been playing since the 2014-15 season. They got their best position which was 3rd in 2016 and the club became runner up to Académica Porto Novo in late March 2017, that season, Lajedos had their best champ season ever as the season extended to 7 matches in 2010, they had 8 wins and finished with 26 points which was a club record.
In other competitions, in the Santo Antão Cup, they headed up to the finals and won their only cup title for the island in 2016. In Santo Antão South Cup, the club headed up to the cup finals and lost to the mighty Académica Porto Novo and was the club's best position, as that club win the championship, they got the entry into the regional super cup as second placed cup winner where they lost to Académica Porto Novo.
