The Lake Oswego Review is an American newspaper published in Lake Oswego, Oregon, within the Portland metropolitan area. The paper began as the Western Clackamas Review, was later known as the Oswego Review from 1929 through 1961, [2] and then adopted its present name when the city of Oswego annexed Lake Grove and the lake. [3] It has been owned by Pamplin Media Group since 2000. [4]

History

The Western Clackamas Review was established in 1920. [5] In 1927, R. C. Cooke sold the paper to Rhoads & Richards, [6] who a few months later sold it to Paul Robinson and George Baxter. [7] In 1941, Edward A. Donnelly purchased the Oswego Review from Harmon Marshall and Claude A. Smith. [8] In 1946, Donnelly sold the paper to William L. Blizzard. [9] In 1978, Blizzard sold the LakeOswego Review to Eagle Newspapers. [10] [11] In 1987, Eagle merged the newspaper into a new business venture called Community Newspapers, Inc. [12] The business was sold to Steve Clark in 1996 [13] and later acquired by Pamplin Media Group in August 2000. [4] Robert B. Pamplin Jr. sold his newspaper company in June 2024 to Carpenter Media Group. [14]

Eagle Newspapers was an American newspaper publisher serving the states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The company originated in 1948 when Elmo Smith purchased the Blue Mountain Eagle. He would later sell the paper but the company's name would be derived from that title. Smith served a partial term as Oregon Governor and upon his death the business was managed by his son Denny Smith, who rapidly grew it from three newspapers to nearly twenty in the span of two decades. By 1985, Eagle Newspapers publications accounted for nearly one-half of the weekly newspapers sold each week in Oregon. The company sold off its last paper in 2020.

The Columbia County Spotlight, previously known as the Scappoose Spotlight and the South County Spotlight, is a weekly newspaper in Columbia County, Oregon, United States, established in 1961. The paper serves Scappoose and St. Helens, and covers communities along Highway 30 from Linnton and Sauvie Island to Clatskanie. The editorial staff is based in Scappoose, while some administration and creative services are based in Milwaukie at the headquarters of Pamplin Media Group, which owns the newspaper.
