Bhaichung Bhutia, also spelled as Baichung Bhutia, is an Indian former professional footballer who played as a striker. Bhutia is considered as the torchbearer of Indian football in the international arena. He is often nicknamed the Sikkimese Sniper because of his shooting skills in football. Three-time Indian Player of the Year I. M. Vijayan described Bhutia as "God's gift to Indian football".

He was also named as South Asia's Best Player in 2014 by eultimategoal.com. In March 2016, Ashfaq scored his 50th goal for Maldives.
Oinam Bembem Devi is an Indian football coach and former footballer from Manipur. In 2017, she was honoured with the Arjuna Award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. She was nicknamed the Durga of Indian Football and is currently involved in spreading awareness about Women's football in India.

Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS), an entity of Talent Invigoration and Sports Management Private Limited, is a football youth development initiative by Bhaichung Bhutia, the former Indian football team captain, Kishore Taid, and Anurag Khilnani, in association with Football by Carlos Queiroz (FBCQ), the Portuguese football academy by Carlos Queiroz. BBFS aims to cater to children in the age group of 5 to 23 years and deliver coaching experience under the guidance of senior coaches. As per Bhutia, BBFS is planned to be an all-inclusive venture where 20–30% of the enrolled students at BBFS are targeted to be from underprivileged sections of the society.
Football is a sport with a comparatively brief history in Bhutan, having had an initial period of favour in the mid-twentieth century, when it was first introduced to the country by visiting teachers from India and Europe. It has only achieved significantly renewed popularity in the early 2000s, following the advent of satellite television broadcasting, with historically national sport being archery. Consequently, the domestic game was underdeveloped. After the establishment of an initial league in the late 1980s, little in the way of recorded competition took place until the mid-1990s when a formal championship, the A-Division, was created. Football became the most popular sport in Bhutan.
United Sikkim Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Gangtok, Sikkim. Incorporated in 2011, the club usually competed in Sikkim Premier Division League. United Sikkim is the only club from Sikkim to have played in the I-League, which was then top tier of the Indian football league system.
