Skateboarding and photography

Dawes was raised in Washington DC., where he grew up in the DC punk scene of the 1980s. [5] In his late teens, Dawes became a sponsored skateboarder for Dogtown, Vans and Independent Trucks. [5] He moved to San Francisco to study film at the University of San Francisco. [5] While in school, Dawes worked as a darkroom tech and stat operator at Thrasher Magazine from October 1990 to January 1992. [3] [6] Dawes documented the San Francisco skate scene of the early 1990s. [3]

Slap Magazine

Lance Dawes is the co-founder and original editor of SLAP . [3] Dawes founded Slap with High Speed Productions in January 1992. [3] In 1999, after running the magazine for seven years, Lance Dawes moved down to Los Angeles and left his position as editor-in-chief. [7] Mark Whiteley was named editor-in-chief after Dawes. [7] Dawes continued to be a contributing editor and photographer for both Slap and Thrasher until June 2009. [3]

Dawes' photography has appeared in a range of campaigns and publications, from ESPN, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, Getty Images, Warner Music, Atlantic Records, Panasonic, Vans, Nike, Juxtapoz magazine , Flywheels, and Skateboarder Magazine . [8] [9] [10] [11]

As of August 2017, Mountain continues to skate professionally and his sponsors include Flip, Nike SB, Independent Trucks, Spitfire Wheels, and Bones Bearings.

Transworld Skateboarding (TWS) is an international magazine on skateboarding that was based in Carlsbad, California, United States. The publication also ran an accompanying website and video production company. In February 2019, the publishers of Transworld magazine, The Enthusiast Network, were purchased by American Media, Inc. In March 2019, the print edition of Transworld magazine was discontinued. It continues as a digital brand.

Peter Ramondetta is an American professional skateboarder. In 2012, he took 16th place overall in Street League.

Fausto Vitello was an Argentine-American businessman, magazine publisher, and skateboarder. Vitello was the creator of Thrasher magazine and co-creator of Independent trucks.

Henry Sanchez, also known as Henpunt, is a goofy-footed former professional skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay, California. Sanchez gained widespread recognition for his part in Blind Skateboards' "Tim and Henry's Pack of Lies" (1992) with Tim Gavin, Rudy Johnson, Brian Lotti, and Guy Mariano. He appeared on the cover of Thrasher (magazine) in July 1993.From his sponsorship by Spitfire and Thunder, which came about in a humorous and unexpected way, to his appearance on the cover of Thrasher magazine. Henry's influence and skill were impossible to ignore.

John Joseph Cardiel is a former professional skateboarder and snowboarder who has been a core member of the AntiHero Skateboards company since it was founded in 1995.

James Kendall "Jake" Phelps was an American skateboarder and magazine editor. Phelps led the magazine Thrasher as editor-in-chief for 27 years.

Slap Magazine was an American skate magazine created by Kevin Thatcher and Fausto one late night when they sparked an idea to create their own competition. At the time they ran Thrasher Skateboard Mag. The next day they put Lance Dawes in charge of it (1992), while he worked for Thrasher. Slap was distributed by High Speed Productions for 16 years. The Slap Magazine website still serves as a highly popular message board for skateboarding content and conversation.

Phil Shao was a goofy-footed professional skateboarder and journalist from Redwood City, California. Before his death, Shao was to be the next editor-in-chief of Thrasher magazine.

Joe Brook is an American photographer. He has been a Staff Photographer for Thrasher Magazine for over 20 years.

Atiba Jefferson is an American photographer and skateboarder.

Mark Whiteley is an American skateboarder, photographer, writer, and former editor-in-chief of Slap Magazine.
