The City and Borough of Juneau,more commonly known simply as Juneau,is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alaska,located in the Gastineau Channel and the Alaskan panhandle. Juneau was named the capital of Alaska in 1906,when the government of what was then the District of Alaska was moved from Sitka as dictated by the U.S. Congress in 1900. On July 1,1970,the City of Juneau merged with the City of Douglas and the surrounding Greater Juneau Borough to form the current consolidated city-borough,which ranks as the second-largest municipality in the United States by area and is larger than both Rhode Island and Delaware.
Frances Ann "Fran" Ulmer is an American administrator and Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Alaska. She served as the seventh lieutenant governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002 under Governor Tony Knowles,becoming the first woman elected to statewide office in Alaska,and lost the 2002 gubernatorial election against Republican Frank Murkowski. In 2007 she became the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA),before serving as Chair of the United States Arctic Research Commission between 2011 and 2020,appointed by President Barack Obama.
The Alaska Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is a bicameral institution consisting of the 40-member Alaska House of Representatives and the 20-member Alaska Senate. There are 40 House Districts (1–40) and 20 Senate Districts (A–T). With a total of 60 lawmakers,the Alaska Legislature is the smallest bicameral state legislature in the United States and the second-smallest of all state legislatures. There are no term limits for either chamber. The Alaska Legislature meets in the Alaska State Capitol in Juneau,Alaska. The current meeting since 2023 is the 33rd Alaska State Legislature. The previous meeting,the 32nd Alaska State Legislature,met from 2021 to 2023.
The Alaska political corruption probe refers to a 2003 to 2010 widespread investigation by the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice,the Federal Bureau of Investigation,and the Internal Revenue Service into political corruption of nine then-current or former Alaskan state lawmakers,as well as Republican US Representative Don Young and then-US Senator,Republican Ted Stevens. Sometimes referred to as "The Corrupt Bastards Club" or the "Operation Polar Pen",the investigation focused on the oil industry,fisheries and for-profit prison industries.
Sean Randall Parnell is an American attorney and politician who was the tenth governor of Alaska from 2009 to 2014. He succeeded Sarah Palin in July 2009,and was elected governor in his own right in 2010 with 59.06% of the vote,as the largest percentage margin of any Alaska governor since statehood. In 2014,he narrowly lost his bid for re-election and returned to work in the private sector. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Thomas T. Anderson was a partner at Optima Public Relations in Anchorage,Alaska and host of the "Tom Anderson Show" radio talk show (www.TomAndersonShow.com) on KVNT 92.5 FM and 1020 AM in Anchorage and Mat-Su. Anderson,a Republican,was an Alaska state representative for District 19 representing northeast Anchorage for two terms,from 2003 to 2007. He became known for his sponsorship of legislation which expanded Alaska's DNA database to assist in forensic identification of criminal suspects through DNA testing.
Dennis William Egan was an American politician who was a member of the Alaska Senate representing Juneau from April 19,2009,until January 15,2019. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served as the mayor of Juneau from February 13,1995,to October 3,2000,and was a member of the local assembly prior to that. Outside of politics,he was known for his work as a radio broadcaster,most notably for KINY,and was inducted to the Alaskan Broadcaster Association's Hall of Fame in 2001.
Bryce Edgmon is a member of the Alaska House of Representatives,representing the 37th District. He served as speaker from 2017–2021. The district includes all or portions of the Kodiak Island Borough,Aleutians East Borough,Lake and Peninsula Borough,Bristol Bay Borough,and the Yukon–Koyukuk Census Area.
Bob Lynn was an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives,representing the 31st district from 2003 to 2013 and the 26th district from 2013 to 2017. He served as Chair of the State Affairs Committee,was Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee,and was a member of the Transportation Committee and Joint Armed Forces Committees. He also served on the Labor &Workforce Development,Military &Veterans' Affairs,and Public Safety Finance Subcommittees,for the 28th Legislature. Bob Lynn is a retired fighter pilot with the United States Air Force and a Vietnam Veteran.
Matthew W. Claman is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the Alaska Senate since 2023. Claman previously served as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2015 until 2023;the acting mayor of Anchorage from in 2009,and a member of the Anchorage Assembly from 2007 until 2010.
The 2012 United States House of Representatives election in Alaska was held on Tuesday,November 6,2012,to elect the U.S. representative from Alaska's at-large congressional district,who will represent the state of Alaska in the 113th United States Congress. The election coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices,including a quadrennial presidential election. As is the case every twelve years in Alaska,this was the only statewide election contest in the state held in 2012. A primary election was held on August 28,2012.
Lora H. Reinbold is an American politician who is a member of the Alaska Senate. She was a member of the Alaska House from 2013 to 2019,representing District 26. In 2018,Reinbold was elected to the Alaska State Senate representing the G district. She served in the State Senate from 2019 until retiring in 2023. From 2015 to the end of her tenure,Reinbold was the only member of the Alaska State Legislature unaffiliated with a caucus organization,as she was ejected from the Republican-led majority caucus in March 2015.

He was president of the Alaska Senate,leading a caucus of 14 Republicans and 1 Democrat from 2015 to 2017. Meyer served in the Alaska Legislature continuously from 2003 to 2018,in both the Alaska House of Representatives and Senate,previously representing the district when it was District O. He works as an investment recovery coordinator for ConocoPhillips.

The 2022 Alaska at-large congressional district special election was held on August 16 to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Republican incumbent Don Young. Mary Peltola defeated former governor Sarah Palin in the election,becoming the first Democrat to represent Alaska in the House since 1972,the first Alaska Native elected to Congress,and the first woman elected to represent Alaska in the House.
