Landline is an Australian national rural issues television program broadcast on ABC Television since 1991.

History

The program premiered on 11 March 1991 at 11:30 am, replacing Countrywide and hosted by former host of Countrywide, Doug Murray. [1] By October 1991, Doug Murray had departed from the program [2] and with a format change and a new host Cathie Schnitzerling [3] (née Phillips), it moved to 12:00 pm by November 1991. [4]

Landline was the first program that broadcast on ABC2 when the channel was launched at 6:35 am on 7 March 2005. [5] [6]

By 2018 it moved to screen each Sunday from 12:30pm [7] on ABC TV & 4pm on ABC News with an encore available on ABC iview.

Presenters

As of November 2024, Landline is presented by Pip Courtney, [3] who has hosted the program since 2012. [8]

Previous presenters include Deborah Knight, Cathie Schnitzerling, Doug Murray, [2] Ticky Fullerton, Anne Kruger and Sally Sara.[ citation needed ]

Description

The program discusses rural issues "ranging across agri-politics and economics, business and product innovation, animal and crop science, regional infrastructure, climate and weather trends, regional and rural services, music and lifestyle". [3]

The program also features a Market Report, which was hosted from 1991-2020 by Kerry Lonergan. [9] In 2021, Lonergan was replaced by ABC Country Hour presenter Matt Brann [10] who is still presenting the Market Reports today.

Landline also features a weekly weather report from the Bureau of Meteorology.

ABC Entertains is an Australian English language general entertainment free-to-air television channel owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It was launched on 4 December 2009 as a children's channel called ABC3. It was rebranded on 19 September 2016 to ABC Me. It rebranded once more on 3 June 2024 to ABC Entertains, now focusing on general entertainment programming.

ABC Rural was a department of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that produced news, business, and entertainment programs targeted at audiences in regional Australia. The department employed 70 staff and reporters around the country. In 2015, the Rural department was rolled into the ABC's Regional division as part of a restructure of the organisation. The Rural department continues to operate as part of the ABC's Regional and Local division, with Rural Reporters stationed in most of the regional offices and Country Hour executive producers and presenters in each capital city. The ABC Rural website also continues to operate as a portal to all of the corporation's farming, agriculture and mining news.

News Breakfast is an Australian news breakfast television program. It is broadcast on ABC TV and ABC News channel from 6:00 am to 9:00 am AEST/AEDT on weekdays and is hosted by Michael Rowland and Bridget Brennan. The program is also streamed live on ABC iView and the Australia Network throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
