Lane Beattie is an American businessman and politician from the state of Utah.
Beattie served in the Utah Senate from 1989 through 2000,representing the 23rd Utah Senate District. He served as Senate Majority Leader from 1993 through 1994 and Senate President from 1995. He opted not to seek reelection in 2000. [1] Beattie helped plan the 2002 Winter Olympics,held in Salt Lake City,and consulted with the committee planning the 2010 Winter Olympics,held in Vancouver,Canada. [2] Beattie is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce,and he was named to the board of directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce in 2011. [3] [4]
Beattie was a potential candidate in the 2016 election for the United States Senate seat held by Mike Lee. [5]

TRAX is a light rail system in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah,in the United States,serving Salt Lake City and many of its suburbs throughout Salt Lake County. Peaks Ice Arena is an indoor ice hockey and figure skating arena in Provo,Utah,located 43 miles (69 km) south of Salt Lake City. Along with the Maverik Center in West Valley City,it was built as an ice hockey and figure skating practice venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics. It currently serves as the home of the Utah Valley University men’s ice hockey team,Peaks Youth Hockey Association,several high school teams,the Peaks Figure Skating Club,and a Learn-to-Skate USA program for beginning skaters of all ages.

The Utah Olympic Park is a winter sports park built for the 2002 Winter Olympics,and is located in Summit County northwest of Park City,Utah,United States. During the 2002 games the park hosted the bobsleigh,skeleton,luge,ski jumping,and Nordic combined events. It still serves a training center for Olympic and development level athletes.

Legacy Parkway is an 11.5-mile-long (18.5 km) four-lane controlled-access parkway located almost completely within Davis County in the northern part of the U.S. state of Utah. The parkway travels north from Interstate 215 (I-215) in northwestern Salt Lake City to an interchange named the Wasatch Weave in Farmington with two intermediate interchanges providing access to Woods Cross and Centerville. Wetlands of the nearby Great Salt Lake and nature preserves border the western side of the parkway while the eastern side roughly parallels Union Pacific and Utah Transit Authority rail lines and I-15. On average,between 20,000 and 23,000 vehicles use the parkway daily.
Karen Mayne was an American politician who served as a member of the Utah Senate from the 5th District. She assumed office on January 2,2008,succeeding her husband,Ed Mayne. She won re-election for the 12th senate district after redistricting. On January 4,2023 Karen Mayne announced her plan to resign office due to unexpected changes in her health. Delegates of the Utah Democratic Party held a special election on January 15,2023,electing Representative Karen Kwan to fill her seat.
John W. Gallivan was an American newspaper publisher,cable television pioneer,and civic leader. A major figure in the promotion and development of Salt Lake City and Utah's ski industry,he was instrumental in starting the campaign to bring the 2002 Olympic Winter Games to Salt Lake City. Using his position as publisher of the Salt Lake Tribune,"Jack" Gallivan was the driving force behind numerous civic improvement and development projects including the Salt Palace,the Salt Lake Arts Center,Symphony Hall,The Capitol Theatre,and the promotion of light rail. His many contributions to the economic and cultural life of the city were recognized by the community in the naming of the John W. Gallivan Plaza near the center of downtown.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch won re-election to a seventh term against the Democratic candidate,former state Senator and IBM executive Scott Howell,in a rematch of the 2000 Senate election,with Hatch doing slightly better than in 2000.. This would be the last time Hatch was elected to the Senate before his retirement in 2018.
The 2002 Winter Olympic Games were held in and around Salt Lake City,United States from February 8 to 24,2002,and the Paralympics from March 7 to 16,2002. The sporting events were held in ten competitive venues,while non-competitive events,such as the opening ceremony,were held in six other venues. Three venues were also created for training purposes. All Olympic venues were scattered throughout Northern Utah and the Wasatch Front.

The Salt Palace was an indoor arena located in downtown Salt Lake City,Utah. Opened in 1969,the building hosted several professional sport teams,concerts,and other special events before it was closed and demolished in the 1990s to make way for the current Salt Palace Convention Center.
