Langlen Thadoi is a 1984 Manipuri film directed by M.A. Singh (Maibam Amuthoi Singh) [1] and produced by Khaidem Sakhi Devi for Kay Pee Films International. [2] [3] It is the first Manipuri full-length colour film and also the first Manipuri film to be produced by a woman. [4] [5] [6]

Plot

Thadoi goes to Imphal to join a training course as a representative of Mahila Mandal. Her love interest Nongyai supports her. On her return to Torbung, she starts encouraging the women of their village to engage in handicrafts and other allied activities that will empower them and earn profits. For it, she sought help from the district administrative officers to take grants and to get financial support via the government schemes. The corrupt pradhan does not like the development and plots to appoint his daughter-in-law as the secretary of the Mahila Mandal. Meanwhile, Nongyai unwillingly gets married with Ibeyai. Shortly after Leihao's (Thadoi's aunt) demise, Thadoi leaves her place and goes to her ancestral home in Karang. She conducts campaigns and organise meetings there for promoting self reliance and work culture for the local women. Nongyai routinely helps Thadoi in shipping the necessary equipments for the women empowerment program to Karang. Kokngang, a local of Karang who has developed an interest for Thadoi, hates to see Nongyai's presence in their area and his interaction with Thadoi. This leads to Nongyai being beaten up by Kokngang's friends without his knowledge. Finally, all the misunderstandings are cleared and they come together to work for the development of the area.

Soundtrack

Sagolsem Tijendra composed the soundtrack and Wangkheirakpam Chandrasakhi and Sagolsem Tijendra are the playback singers. [7] The movie has five songs. The songs are titled Poirei Leibak Kangleipak, Ho Thaba Ho Sajik, Eidi Laija Phangdraba Leipaalni, Palem Nangbu Nungsibi and Pomlaga Loktak Laija Erelthak.

Lourembam Bino Devi is a practitioner and a popularizer of the appliqué art of Manipur called Leeba in the Meitei language. The Leeba art is used in creating Monmai which is a decorative circular appliqué art piece used in covering both ends of the traditional Manipuri bolster pillow. In the olden days, Leeba was practiced at "Phiribi Loishang", which is a house for maintaining clothes worn by the deities and royals. The apparels used by the royals, including shoes, were mostly designed using the Leeba technique. Bino Devi has devoted her life to practice this art form and to revive it by trying to transmit her skills to younger generation of interested women. She has been providing this training in collaboration with the Heritage Foundation of Mankind, a Non-Governmental Organization located in Imphal. She has also conducted several workshops at Imphal and at various other places in India.

Brojendragee Luhongba is a 1973 black and white Manipuri film produced and directed by S.N. Chand, the first filmmaker of Manipur. It stars S.N. Chand and Y. Ramola Devi in lead roles. It is based on Lamabam Kamal's short story of the same title. S.N. Chand underwent cosmetic surgery for the film. Principal photography began in 1971 and the film got CBFC certification on 30 December 1972. The movie was released at Usha Cinema, Paona Bazar on 26 January 1973. The digitalised version (4K) of the film was screened at MSFDS, Imphal on 29 April 2022 as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Manipuri Cinema.
