Larisa Marinenkova is a Moldovan powerlifter who has competed at three Summer Paralympics for her country, and won medals in the IPC Powerlifting Open European Championships and 2017 World Para Paralifting World Cup.
As a child, Larisa Marienkova contracted polio, resulting in permanent muscle weakness. She eventually moved to sports, despite the lack of adapted facilities in Moldova. In 2008, she finished eight in her weight class at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. [1] Marienkova won the bronze medal in her weight class at the International Paralympic Committee Powerlifting Open European Championships in 2013 at Aleksin, Russia. [2]
She was selected as one of two members of the Moldovan team for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, England. [3] However, she was unable to lift the standard weight set, something that she was severely disappointed about and drove her to compete at the following Games. [1]
She finished seventh in her event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Government of Moldova gave her an additional 300,000 Moldovan leu because of her success at the Games. [4] This was awarded some six months after it was initially announced.[ citation needed ]
At the 2017 World Para Paralifting World Cup in Eger, Hungary, Marienkova finished in second place behind Egypt's Rehab Abougharbya. Marienkova's largest lift was 88 kilograms (194 lb), while Abourgharbya's was 115 kilograms (254 lb). [5]
Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike is a Nigerian Paralympic powerlifter. She has represented her country at six consecutive Paralympic Games from 2000 in Sydney through to 2021 in Tokyo. She has won medals at each, three gold, two silver and one bronze. She won a further silver medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth games women's lightweight category of the Para Powerlifting event behind compatriot Esther Oyema.
The Philippines made its Paralympic Games debut at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul and has been fielding athletes up to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Its athletes has won two bronze medals; Adeline Dumapong in powerlifting (2000), and Josephine Medina in table tennis (2016). The country has never won a Paralympic gold medal.
Abebe Fekadu is an Ethiopian Australian powerlifter. He competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, where he finished tenth. He was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in powerlifting. He did not medal at the 2012 Games.
Siamand Rahman was an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter. He won gold medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio and the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou. He is the current IPC Powerlifting World Record holder in the +107 kg category with a 310.0 kilograms (683.4 lb) bench press and also holds the junior world record with 290.0 kilograms (639.3 lb) and the Paralympic Championship Record with 310.0 kilograms (683.4 lb). Siamand died on 1 March 2020 due to cardiac arrest.
El Salvador sent a delegation to compete in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from 7 to 18 September 2016. This was the country's fifth successive appearance in the Summer Paralympics since debuting at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. The Salvadoran delegation to Rio consisted of one athlete, powerlifter Herbert Aceituno, who qualified for the Games through his world ranking of 13th and his participation was confirmed by the International Paralympic Committee in August 2016. He failed to lift 185 kilograms (408 lb) in three attempts during the men's 72 kg tournament and was therefore not ranked in the final standings by the judges.
Moldova sent a delegation to participate at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016. This was the Eastern European's country sixth appearance in the Summer Paralympic Games since their debut twenty years prior at the 1996 Summer Paralympics. Moldova sent three athletes to these Games, shot put thrower Oxana Spataur, powerlifter Larisa Marinenkova and short-distance swimmer Alexandr Covaliov. Spataur qualified on merit and Covaliov and Marienkova were invited by the Bipartite Commission. Neither Spataur or Covaliov advanced out of the heats of their events and Marienkova finished seventh in the women's 73kg powerlifting category.
Fatma Omar is an Egyptian powerlifter competing in the -56 kg category. She is a dominant power in her sport, winning gold in her event in four Summer Paralympics, and another four gold medals at the IPC Powerlifting World Championships.
Tan Yujiao is a Chinese powerlifter. She won the gold medal at the Women's 67 kg event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, with 135 kilograms.
Amal Mahmoud Osman, also known as Amal Mahmoud Hanafy, is an Egyptian powerlifter who competes on behalf of her country. She has won medals at three successive Summer Paralympics.
Ivory Nwokorie MON is a Nigerian powerlifter who won the gold medal in the women's 44 kg weight class at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, England. She was banned for two years in 2013, after testing positive for Furosemide.
Đặng Thị Linh Phượng is a Vietnamese powerlifter who has competed for her country at the ASEAN Para Games, and the Summer Paralympics.
Greta Vardanyan is an Armenian powerlifter and Para-alpine skier. She has competed on four occasions for Armenia at the Paralympic Games, one Winter and three Summer. Vardanyan was the flag bearer on each occasion when she attended a Summer Games.
Amalia Pérez Vázquez is a Mexican powerlifter in the 44 kilograms (97 lb) - 60 kilograms (130 lb) bracket. She has four times been a Paralympic champion and is the only powerlifter in the world to have Paralympic champion in three divisions.
Agustin Podes Kitan is a Filipino powerlifter who has competed at the Summer Paralympics.
Achelle Guion is a Filipino powerlifter who has competed in the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
Rehab Ahmed is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. She is a two-time silver medalist at the Summer Paralympics and a three-time gold medalist at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.

Perla Patricia Bárcenas is a Mexican Paralympic powerlifter. She represented Mexico at the Summer Paralympics in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021 and she won three medals. She won the silver medal in the women's 75 kg event at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia, the bronze medal in the women's 82.5 kg event in 2008 and the bronze medal in the women's +82.5 kg event in 2012.
Olivia Broome is a para powerlifter who won a bronze medal in the under-50 kg event at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics. She is the British and world junior record holder in the under-50 kg event, and has won multiple Para Powerlifting World Cup medals. She also won the junior under-50 kg event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships, silver medal in the women's 50 kg event, and a silver medal in the lightweight event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Mariana D'Andrea is a Brazilian Paralympic powerlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 73 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She is the first competitor representing Brazil to win a gold medal in powerlifting at the Paralympics. A few months later, she won the silver medal in her event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
