The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards.

Harry Tracy, Desperado is a 1982 Canadian drama Western film starring Bruce Dern and Helen Shaver. It was directed by William A. Graham, and filmed on-location in Historical Barkerville, British Columbia. "My Love for You" was sung by Gordon Lightfoot, who also appears as U.S. Marshal Nathan. The film was released on DVD under the title Harry Tracy: The Last of the Wild Bunch in the United States.
Inside is a Québécois film directed by Michel Jetté and released in 2002, about a young man's time in a penitentiary. It is based on Léo Lévesque's collection of prison stories Contes en coup de poing. The film was classified 13+ in Québec and 18+ in the United Kingdom, and features Emmanuel Auger, Karyne Lemieux and David Boutin.

Thomas Burstyn, sometimes credited as Tom Burstyn, is a Canadian cinematographer and documentary filmmaker. He is most noted for his work on the 1995 film Magic in the Water, for which he won the Genie Award for Best Cinematography at the 16th Genie Awards. He was nominated in the same category on two other occasions, at the 10th Genie Awards in 1989 for The Tadpole and the Whale , and at the 14th Genie Awards in 1993 for The Lotus Eaters.
Sylvain Brault is a Canadian cinematographer from Quebec. He is most noted as a two-time Genie Award nominee for Best Cinematography, receiving nods at the 15th Genie Awards in 1994 for My Friend Max , and at the 17th Genie Awards in 1996 for Rowing Through.
Linda Ohama is a Canadian artist and filmmaker. She is most noted for her 2001 film Obāchan's Garden, which was a Genie Award nominee for Best Feature Length Documentary at the 22nd Genie Awards in 2001.
