Early life and education

New is a native of Seminole, Oklahoma [1] and a graduate of Wheaton College.

Coaching

New's first coaching position was as the defensive coordinator at Wheaton College of Illinois from 1968. [1] He served as defensive line coach at Missouri from 1969 through 1970, [1] Arkansas from 1970 through 1974, [1] and South Carolina from 1975 through 1982. [1] New was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech from 1983 through 1986. [1] From 1987 through 1989 he was the defensive line coach at Alabama under head coach Bill Curry. [1] New followed Curry to Kentucky as defensive coordinator, 1990-1992. [1] New then was an assistant coach at the Virginia in 1993 and 1994 before returning as the defensive coach for Georgia Tech, 1995-1998, under head coach George O'Leary. [1]

After retiring from coaching in 1998 New was the director of the Homer Rice Center for Sports Performance and then in 1999 became assistant director of athletics at Georgia Tech. [1] In 2000, New was promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics and retired from Georgia Tech in 2007. He then went to work for the NFL as the defensive coordinator of the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe.[ citation needed ]

Bud Carson American gridiron football player

Leon H. "Bud" Carson was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1967 to 1971, compiling a record of 27–27. Carson then coached in the National Football League (NFL), mostly as a defensive coordinator. He was a member of two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers and one losing team with the LA Rams in the 1970s. Carson served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1989 until he was fired midway through the 1990 season. He is credited with developing the Steel Curtain.

Thomas Chandler Gailey Jr. is an American football coach. In 2020, he was the offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). Gailey has previously served as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and Buffalo Bills from 1998 to 2012.

Charles Evans Bresnahan is an American football coach and former player. He was the defensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders on two different occasions and the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL) as well as the Florida Tuskers and Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League (UFL). He also served as defensive coordinator in the college ranks at the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida and University of Maine. Bresnahan also served as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts of the NFL and the United States Naval Academy (Navy) and the Georgia Institute of Technology in the college ranks.
