Ladsmid Nathaniel Owusu (born on 24th of May 1999) known professionally with the stage name Lasmid (fka Charger) is a Ghanaian musician, rapper and songwriter [1] from Takoradi in the Western Region of the Republic of Ghana. [2] [3] He was crowned winner of the MTN Hitmaker Season 8. [4] He is best known for the viral song Friday Night which gained attention in Ghana topping charts after it became a trend on TikTok. Education

Lasmid had his primary school in a village near Dunkwao in the Western Region and his secondary school education at Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI) where he went straight to MTN Hitmaker after a while after when he completed SHS. [8]

Career

In 2019, Lasmid won the MTN Hitmaker season 8 competition, for which he received a GH₵120,000 recording contract. [4] Following the contest, Ghanaian music producer Kaywa signed him to his record label, Highly Spiritual Music. [9] [10] In 2022, Nigerian singer Naira Marley expressed interest in signing Lasmid to his label. [11]

As of 2022, he had worked on songs with Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, [12] Dead Peepol, [13] Mr Drew, [14] [15] Kuami Eugene [12] and Amerado [16]

His fame soared following the release of a remix for his single "Sika," where he collaborated with the renowned Ghanaian singer, Kuami Eugene. [12]

Lasmid, a multi-talented artist skilled in singing and rapping, is being recognized as the heir to Kofi Kinaata's musical legacy. He has garnered a significant fan base, especially in Takoradi, Ghana. [12]

Controversies

Under the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night program, Lamid made some performance which after the program brought about many discussions. He was criticized of not performing well. [17] After the program, in August 2023, Lasmid admitted himself during an interview with Andy Dosty that, the performance wasn't the one expected by him. [17]

MTN Hitmaker is a television music competition created by MTN Ghana in 2011. The show is available to all amateur musicians living in Ghana or who are habitually residing in Ghana. Since its inception in 2012, the competition has fostered and injected several music talents into the public. Some of these artists include Kwame Eugene, Kidi, Fameye and Mr Drew.

Freda Baffour Awuah popularly known as Freda Rhymz, is a Ghanaian rapper and songwriter from Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. She gained recognition when she entered the MTN Hitmaker Competition in 2017 and emerged as the winner of the competition.
