Lauren Agenbag (born 16 August 1996) is a South African cricket umpire. [1] Since February 2019, she has set several firsts in regards to women's umpiring in international and domestic cricket matches. [2]

Career

On 1 February 2019, Agenbag stood in the opening Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. [3] [4] In doing so, she became the first South African woman to umpire a T20I match. [5] The International Cricket Council (ICC) does not have official records, but at the age of 22 years, she is also believed to be the youngest person to umpire in an international cricket fixture, since George Coulthard did so in Australia in January 1879. [5]

Cricket South Africa's Chief Executive, Thabang Moroe, praised Agenbag, saying "this is a very significant moment for umpiring in South Africa". [5] Dane van Niekerk, captain of South Africa's women's team also praised Agenbag, saying "she held her own and it's awesome to a see a woman out there doing really well". [6]

In May 2019, she was one of the on-field umpires for the final of the 2019 ICC Women's Qualifier Africa tournament, between Zimbabwe and Namibia. [7] The same month, the ICC named her as one of the eight women on the ICC Development Panel of Umpires. [8] [9] She was one of the umpires during the 2019 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament in Scotland. [10] [11]

In September 2019, Cricket South Africa appointed her to their Reserve List Umpires Panel for the 2019–20 cricket season. [12] On 13 September 2019, Agenbag became the first woman to umpire in a senior men's provincial match, when she was one of the on-field umpires in the match between Eastern Province and KwaZulu-Natal Inland in the 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup. [13] On 17 October 2019, in the match between Gauteng and Boland in the 2019–20 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup, Agenbag became the first woman to stand as an on-field umpire in a first-class cricket match in South Africa. [14]

In February 2020, the ICC named her as one of the umpires to officiate in matches during the 2020 ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia. [15] In January 2021, Agenbag umpired in her first Women's One Day International (WODI) matches, in all three fixtures between South Africa and Pakistan at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground. [16] In February 2022, she was named as one of the on-field umpires for the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. [17] [18] On 1 April 2022, the ICC named Agenbag as one of the on-field umpires for the final of the tournament, [19] and became the youngest umpire to officiate in a Cricket World Cup final. [20]

In September 2024 she was named as part of an all-female officiating group for the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. [21]

Langton Rusere is a Zimbabwean cricket umpire. He stood in his first Twenty20 International match, between Zimbabwe and India, on 19 July 2015. He officiated in his first One Day International match when Zimbabwe played Afghanistan on 24 October 2015.

Lyndon Hannibal is a Sri Lankan international cricket umpire and a former first class cricketer.

Rashid Riaz is a Pakistani cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer. He has stood in matches in the 2015–16 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He officiated in his first Twenty20 International (T20I) match, between Pakistan and Australia, on 28 October 2018. His first One Day International (ODI) match as an umpire, also between Pakistan and Australia, was on 29 March 2019.

Allahudien Paleker is a South African cricket umpire and former cricketer of Maharashtrian descent with roots tracing back to Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra, India. As an umpire, he has stood in matches in the 2015–16 Ram Slam T20 Challenge. He is part of Cricket South Africa's umpire panel for first-class matches.

Bongani Jele is a South African cricket umpire. He is part of Cricket South Africa's umpire panel for first-class matches. Along with Adrian Holdstock, he umpired in the final of the 2015–16 Ram Slam T20 Challenge in December 2015 and officiated in the first-class tour match between South Africa A and England XI later the same month.

Claire Antonia Polosak is an Australian cricket umpire. Polosak is a school teacher by profession. She was one of the four female umpires named by the ICC to stand in matches in the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

Samuel J Nogajski is an Australian cricket umpire. He stood as an umpire in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy in India.

Roland Black is a Northern Irish cricket umpire. He has been an umpire since 2006. His name was added to ICC Associate and Affiliate Umpires Panel in 2016.

Jacqueline Williams is a Jamaican cricket umpire. She has officiated in the 2015 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament.

The final took place at Cape Town. Australia won their sixth and third consecutive title after beating the hosts South Africa in the final by 19 runs.

Shivani Mishra is an Indian-born international cricket umpire and match referee who is currently based in Qatar, working with the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA). She is an ACC-affiliated Level 3 Coach, Level 3 Umpire and ICC-affiliated Match Referee. Additionally, she is an ICC Asia Coach & Umpire Educator. Mishra has officiated cricket matches as an umpire in Qatari local matches such as Men's Division Matches, and also International matches such as the ICC Men's T20 Qualifier conducted in Kuwait.

Eloise Sheridan is an Australian cricket umpire who is part of the Development Panel of ICC Umpires. In December 2018, Sheridan and Claire Polosak became the first pair of female umpires to stand in a competitive match in Australia, when they officiated in the 2018–19 Women's Big Bash League season. In February 2019, Sheridan and Mary Waldron became the first female umpires to stand in a men's grade cricket match, during a fixture in the South Australian Grade Cricket League. Sheridan was also one of the umpires for the 2019 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament in Scotland, her first international appointment.
