Wyoming Seminary, founded in 1844, is a Methodist college preparatory school located in the Wyoming Valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The "Lower School," which consists of preschool - 8th-grade students, is located in Forty Fort. The "Upper School," comprising 9th-grade to postgraduate students, is located in Kingston. It is near the Susquehanna River and the city of Wilkes-Barre. Locally and in some publications, it is sometimes referred to as "Sem." As a boarding school, only Upper School students may board on campus. Slightly more than one-third of the Upper School student body resides on campus.
Tracey Claire Fuchs is a former field hockey midfielder from the United States, who was a member of the US women's team that finished fifth at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. She also competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where Team USA finished in eighth and last position. She also played for the 1994 World Cup team that won the bronze medal. She won a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. Fuchs won the NCAA Division I national title as the coach of the Northwestern Wildcats in 2021.
Julie Wu Chu is an American-Canadian former Olympic ice hockey player who played the position of forward on the United States women's ice hockey team and the position of defense with Les Canadiennes of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). She won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2007 for best female collegiate hockey player while at Harvard University. She finished her collegiate career as the all-time assists leader and points scorer in NCAA history with 284 points until the record was snapped in 2011. She is tied as the second-most decorated U.S. female in Olympic Winter Games history. She was selected by fellow Team USA members to be the flag bearer at the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Angie Loy is a field hockey forward from the United States, who earned her first career cap versus Ireland on January 14, 2004 at Stanford, California. Loy attended the Old Dominion University. She was raised in rural Perry County, PA and attended West Perry High School in Elliottsburg, PA. On September 25, 2008 the West Perry Field Hockey team retired Loy's high school hockey jersey (#3). She is the first player to have her jersey retired by the field hockey team and the fourth player ever to have their jersey retired at West Perry High School.
Charlene Frances "Char" Morett-Curtiss is a field hockey coach and former player from the United States, who was a member of the Women's National Team that won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
Kate ("Tiki") Barber is a field hockey forward and midfield player from the United States, who made her international senior debut for the Women's National Team in 1998 by scoring two goals in a 3-3 draw with New Zealand. The former student of Unionville High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was a member of the team, that won the silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Katie Kauffman Beach is a field hockey player and coach. She played for the United States Women's National Team in 180 international games, including the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She was inducted into the United States Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
Meredith Dawn Orr is a field hockey midfielder from New Zealand, who represented her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She played for the national team from 2005 through 2016. Before joining the national team she played field hockey for Wake Forest University, winning the NCAA field hockey championship twice.
Kelsey Kolojejchick is an American field hockey player. In 2016, she was named to the United States Olympic field hockey team for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
