Lauren Ventrella is an American politician serving as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from the 65th district. A member of the Republican Party,Ventrella represents parts of East Baton Rouge Parish and has been in office since January 8,2024. [1] [2] [3] [4]
In 2024,Ventrella voted in favor of advancing House Bill 545 from the Administration of Criminal Justice committee. [5] The bill,filed by Republican Beryl Amedee,would remove legal protections for obscenity from teachers and librarians in all Louisiana public schools. [6]
Also in 2024,Ventrella cosponsored House Bill 71,which mandates that a poster of the Ten Commandments be displayed in every Louisiana classroom at schools that receive state funding,from kindergarten through the university level. [7]
Washington's 8th congressional district is a district for the United States House of Representatives located in western Washington State. It includes the eastern portions of King,Pierce,and Snohomish counties,and crosses the Cascade mountains to include Chelan and Kittitas counties. The district's western part includes the exurban communities of Sammamish,Issaquah,and Maple Valley but does not include Seattle and Tacoma's more immediate suburbs. On its east side,the 8th's population centers include the rural communities Wenatchee,Leavenworth,and Ellensburg. It is currently represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Democrat Kim Schrier,who was first elected to the seat in 2018.
Stone v. Graham,449 U.S. 39 (1980),was a court case in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that a Kentucky statute was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment,because it lacked a nonreligious,legislative purpose. The statute required the posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments on the wall of each public classroom in the state. The copies of the Ten Commandments were purchased with private funding,but the Court ruled that because they were being placed in public classrooms they were in violation of the First Amendment.
