Lawrence Henry Framme III (born October 8,1949) is an American attorney who twice served as chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
He was elected to his first term at the age of 37,after which he was selected by Governor Douglas Wilder to serve as state Secretary of Commerce (then called Secretary of Economic Development). In 2000,Framme ran alongside state senator Emily Couric for the respective positions of State Chair and General Chair;the positions were created after Couric was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and suspended her run for lieutenant governor. Michael Dean Crapo is an American lawyer and politician serving as the senior United States senator from Idaho,a seat he has held since 1999. A member of the Republican Party,Crapo served as the U.S. representative for Idaho's 2nd congressional district from 1993 to 1999. Robert Creigh Deeds is an American lawyer and politician serving as a member of the Senate of Virginia representing the 25th district since 2001. The incumbent Lieutenant Governor,Democrat Ralph Northam,declined to run for re-election in order to run for Governor. In the general election on November 7,2017,Democratic nominee Justin Fairfax defeated Republican state Senator Jill Vogel to become the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.
The 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on November 2,2021,to elect the next governor of Virginia. The election was concurrent with other elections for Virginia state offices. Incumbent Democratic Governor Ralph Northam was ineligible to run for re-election,as the Constitution of Virginia prohibits governors from serving consecutive terms. Businessman Glenn Youngkin won the Republican nomination at the party's May 8 convention,which was held in 37 polling locations across the state,and was officially declared the nominee on May 10. The Democratic Party held its primary election on June 8,which former Governor Terry McAuliffe easily won.

The seat became vacant after incumbent Democrat Donald McEachin died on November 28,2022,of colorectal cancer. State Senator Jennifer McClellan was declared the victor shortly after the polls closed,winning in a landslide against her Republican opponent.
