Le QuecumBar is a music venue and brasserie in Battersea, London, England dedicated to Gypsy Swing and the music of Django Reinhardt. [1] [2]
The venue originally opened as The Woodman, a typical London pub, before being renamed as "The Original Woodman" due to a pub with the same name opening nearby. [3] It features regular live music and concerts by Gypsy Swing musicians, [4] including Fapy Lafertin. [5] Johnny Depp visited the venue in order to study the character of Roux in the film Chocolat . [6]
The independent record label owned by Le QuecumBar specializes in live recordings of bands that have performed at the venue. The Shadows' Hank Marvin has appeared on live recordings, [7] and the venue's recording of 'When I Was A Boy' by Biel Ballester was featured on the soundtrack of Woody Allen's film, Vicki Cristina Barcelona. [8] The Angelo Debarre quartet have recorded a live album at the venue, which was released on Lejazzetal records. [9]
Jean Reinhardt, known by his Romani nickname Django, was a Belgian-born Romani-French jazz guitarist and composer. He was one of the first major jazz talents to emerge in Europe and has been hailed as one of its most significant exponents.
Hank Brian Marvin is an English multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. He is widely known as the lead guitarist for the Shadows, a group which primarily performed instrumentals and was the backing band for Cliff Richard, and subsequently for Marvin, Welch & Farrar.

He was noted for a musical style that incorporated Russian and Hungarian influences and lived long enough to see a resurgence of interest in gypsy jazz in which he was recognised as one of the great surviving players of the genre. Two of his sons, Boulou and Elios Ferré, continue to play a more modern and individualistic form of gypsy jazz-based guitar music in Paris.
