Learning to Dissolve is the fourth studio album by American metalcore band Orthodox, released on August 19, 2022, through Century Media Records.
In early 2020 Orthodox had signed a record deal with Century Media but had only announced it a year later on October 15, 2021, when they released their label debut single, "Body and Soul" [1] . The band had also announced that they were in the process of creating an album to follow after the single, enlisting producer Randy LeBoeuf, who has worked with fellow Tennessee band Chamber's Cost of Sacrifice and Massachusetts-based band The Acacia Strain's Slow Decay.
The band released four singles with music videos directed by to promote the album. Three of the videos were made in collaboration with director Nick Chance, following a storyline. The first video was for "Head On A Spike", released on June 24, 2022, [2] featuring a man crawling on his hands and knees and being dragged and kidnapped by the band members. The next video was for "Cave In", released on July 13, 2022, [3] following the same man lifting his head out of a bucket filled with water, looking in a mirror, and ending up in a room of an abandoned house where he is grabbed by the neck of his shirt by vocalist Adam Easterling, leading into the video for the third single, "Dissolve", released on August 2, 2022. [4] The mentioned video features Easterling shoving the man through a door into a room in the abandoned house. Between clips of the band performing, the man is seen sitting alone in the room in fear and walking up a staircase in the house.
The album is based around self-reflection.
Responding to a question on lyrical themes, frontman Adam Easterling had said:
“The whole record Is about growing up and realizing that the things you wanted or the people that you loved when you were young don’t always align with your moral compass as you get older, learning to dissolve is about finding your own way. It’s about coming into your own as a person and deciding what’s right for you. Basically, living in your own solidarity or dissolving in complacency.” [5]

On the day of release of the album, Century Media uploaded an audio video of the album's first track, "Feel It Linger" on their official YouTube channel. A music video for the song "Nothing to See" was released on February 3, 2023, featuring a compilation of the band playing at various concerts in support of the album. On May 5, 2023, a video was released featuring the band playing a show on August 28, 2022, at The End in Nashville, Tennessee in celebration of the release of the album. [6] Five days later on May 11, they announced a summer tour titled the Fortune Favors The Cold Tour, with guests Chamber, 156/Silence, Momentum, and Cell. [7] This tour went from July 6 to August 13.

Taking Back Sunday is an American rock band from Amityville, New York, formed by guitarist Eddie Reyes and bassist Jesse Lacey in 1999. The band's current members are Adam Lazzara, John Nolan, Shaun Cooper and Mark O'Connell (drums), accompanied by Nathan Cogan (guitar) for their live performances. The band's former members include Lacey, Reyes, bassist Matthew Rubano, and guitarist-vocalists Fred Mascherino and Matthew Fazzi.
Poison the Well is an American metalcore band from Miami, Florida who were last signed to Ferret Music. In 2010, they announced a hiatus to explore other interests. Lead guitarist Ryan Primack and drummer Chris Hornbrook were the only remaining founding members, although vocalist Jeffrey Moreira featured on all five of their full-length albums. The band reformed for numerous shows in 2015 and again in 2016 and 2020; they have since reunited permanently and are working on a new album as of 2024. Their albums have sold a combined total of over 300,000 copies in the United States as of 2012.
Demon Hunter is an American Christian metal band from Seattle, Washington, formed by brothers Don Clark and Ryan Clark in 2000. Ryan is the band's only remaining original member, as Don left in 2009. As of the 2010s, the band has sold over 600,000 albums.

He Is Legend is an American alternative metal band from Wilmington, North Carolina. It was founded in 2003 by high school friends. The band's current lineup is frontman Schuylar Croom, guitarist Adam Tanbouz, bassist Matty Williams, and drummer Jesse Shelley. Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee. The band is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England, where Jack the Ripper committed a series of murders. The group comprises vocalist Phil Bozeman, guitarists Ben Savage, Alex Wade, and Zach Householder, bassist Gabe Crisp and drummer Brandon Zackey. Their core lineup, with the exception of the drummer, has remained consistent since Householder replaced original guitarist Brandon Cagle in 2007. Founded in 2006 by Bozeman and Savage, the band has released eight studio albums and fourteen music videos, and it's currently signed to Metal Blade Records. Whitechapel's 2010 album A New Era of Corruption, sold around 10,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release and debuted at position No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band's self-titled fourth album was released in 2012 and debuted at No. 47 on the Billboard 200, selling roughly 9,200 copies in its first week. In 2014 the band released their fifth full-length album, Our Endless War to generally positive reviews. Oceano is an American deathcore band from Cook County, Illinois. Formed in 2006, the band signed to Earache Records and released their debut album, Depths, on April 7, 2009. Their second album, Contagion, was released on November 9, 2010. Their fourth album Ascendants was released March 23, 2015. Their fifth studio album Revelation was released on May 19, 2017. It was their first release with their new label, Sumerian Records. Their sixth studio album, Living Chaos, was released on August 30, 2024.
Motionless in White is an American metalcore band from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2004, the band consists of lead vocalist Chris "Motionless" Cerulli, guitarists Ryan Sitkowski and Ricky "Horror" Olson, drummer Vinny Mauro and bassist Justin Morrow. Cerulli is the only member of the original line-up that remains in the band. The group has stated that their band name derived from the Eighteen Visions song "Motionless and White".
Erra is an American progressive metalcore band from Birmingham, Alabama, formed in 2009. The band was named after the homonymous Akkadian god of war and plague. The band has released six studio albums and three EPs to date. Their latest album, titled Cure, was released on April 5, 2024. They have toured with bands such as As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, TesseracT, Born of Osiris, Ice Nine Kills, Glass Cloud, Within the Ruins, Bad Omens, I See Stars, and Texas in July.

Invent Animate is an American metalcore band formed in Port Neches, Texas, in 2011. The group consists of vocalist Marcus Vik, lead guitarist Keaton Goldwire, rhythm guitarist Trey Celaya, bassist Caleb Sherraden, and drummer Brody Taylor Smith. They self-released their debut EP titled Waves on March 13, 2012. After a number of regional tours and increasing popularity in the online djent community, the band was signed up by Tragic Hero Records in February 2014. The band announced they would release their debut studio album titled Everchanger on August 26, 2014. Their sophomore album, Stillworld, was released on July 8, 2016. Their third album and first with Marcus Vik, Greyview, was released on March 13, 2020. Their most recent studio album, Heavener, was released through their new label, UNFD, on March 17, 2023.

They released their first studio album End Of My Wit in 2013 and followed up the next year in 2014 with their extended play Give Me A Reason, both on Clear Minded Records. In 2015, the band released a split EP with Michigan hardcore band Breaking Wheel. They then signed to Unbeaten Records, releasing their sophomore studio album Sounds of Loss in 2017 and third studio album Let It Take Its Course in 2020. They are currently signed to Century Media Records, and have released the single 'Body and Soul' on October 15, 2021, fourth studio album Learning to Dissolve on August 19, 2022, and follow-up single 'Soaking Nerves' on June 26, 2023.
