Leaves are an Icelandic indie band formed in 2000. [1]

History

Vocalist Arnar Gudjonsson was formerly the guitarist with Mower, and he was joined by Hallur Hallsson (bass guitar), Arnar Ólafsson (guitar, accordion), Bjarni Grímsson (drums), and Andri Ásgrímsson (keyboards). [1] Late in 2001 they played with Emiliana Torrini and drew early praise from the New York Times . [2] They came to prominence in 2002 with their single "Race" (which reached number 66 in the UK Singles Chart), and début album, Breathe, drawing comparisons to groups such as Coldplay, Muse, [1] The Verve and Doves. The album was released in the UK first to positive reviews, reaching number 71 in the UK Albums Chart, then was re-released in the United States, and a tour of both the UK and the U.S. followed. [3] Their second album, The Angela Test, was released in 2005 and their third album, We Are Shadows, was released in 2009. The group's most recent album, See You in the Afterglow, arrived in 2013. In 2016, the group released a reworked version of "Breathe". In 2017 vocalist Arnar formed a solo project, Warmland.

The name of the band refers to Nick Drake's first album Five Leaves Left . [3]

Rokk í Reykjavík was the soundtrack to the Icelandic TV documentary directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson during 1981-82 winter and released in 1982.
The soundtrack, which was released in April 1982 as a 2 LP released through Hugrenningur, features the performances of several Icelandic bands of the post-punk/new wave scene.
Bands such as Þeyr, Tappi Tíkarrass, Purrkur Pillnikk, among others, were considered some of the most important bands at the moment. The image cover for this release is a picture of singer Björk performing with Tappi Tíkarrass.
The record sold over 2000 copies. Ira Robbins from Trouser Press stated that the album is an good compilation album to get to know Icelandic music.

Skeletal Family

Skeletal Family are an English rock band formed in Keighley, West Yorkshire, in December 1982. The band was formed from the remaining members of an earlier group called the Elements, and took their name from the title of the song "Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family" from the 1974 David Bowie album, Diamond Dogs.

Sign (band)

Sign is an Icelandic rock band that was formed in 2000, as Halim, to compete in the Icelandic version of the Battle of the bands called Musiktilraunir. The band 's frontman and founding member Ragnar Zolberg is also a solo artist and was a guitar player in the Swedish band Pain of Salvation. Sign has toured with bands such as Wednesday 13, The Wildhearts, Aiden, The Answer, Skid Row and played a show with Alice Cooper in Iceland. In August 2007 Sign played their first headline tour of the UK.

Changer is an Icelandic death metal / metalcore band, formed in 1999. The band has released three albums and two EPs.

Jagúar is a funk band formed in 1998 in Reykjavík, Iceland. They went international in 2000, when they performed at the "1000 years since the Vikings found America" celebration in New York City. The band gained critical acclaim for their second album, Get the Funk Out, which won the Icelandic Music Awards' 2001 "Album of the Year". The band and its many current and former members continue to be active in the Icelandic jazz scene.

Írafár is an Icelandic pop group formed in 1998 in Reykjavík. Its name means "Chaotic state" in Icelandic.

Vök are an Icelandic dream pop and indietronic band from Reykjavík. The band was formed in January 2013 by singer Margrét Magnúsdóttir and saxophonist Andri Enoksson after two years of working together. The name "Vök" was suggested by Enoksson. In March that year, the band performed at and won Músíktilraunir, an annual music contest in Iceland. In mid-2013, Vök was joined by guitarist Ólafur Ólafsson. As of March 2019, the band's line-up consists of Margrét, Einar Stefánsson and Bergur Dagbjartsson.

The Icelandic Music Awards are the official annual music awards given in Iceland to commemorate the musical achievements of the year.

Mammút Icelandic rock band

Mammút is an Icelandic rock band based in Reykjavík. Formed in 2003 as ROK, an all-female trio highlighting vocalist Kata, the group expanded in early 2004 to a 5-piece band by recruiting guitarist Arnar Pétursson and drummer Andri Bjartur Jakobsson, and adopted the new name Mammút.

2016 Icelandic presidential election

Presidential elections took place in Iceland on 25 June 2016. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, elected in 1996, stepped down after serving five consecutive terms. The history professor Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was elected after receiving a plurality of 39.1% of the vote. He took office on 1 August, as the first new president of Iceland in twenty years.
