The Proastiakos is Greece's Commuter rail service, run by Hellenic Train, on rail infrastructure owned by the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) (lines) and GAIAOSE. These services connect a participating city's central railway station to important locations such as a city's port or airport, as well as its suburbs and occasionally nearby towns and cities.
The Hellenic Railways Organisation or OSE is the Greek national railway company which owns, maintains and operates all railway infrastructure in Greece with the exception of Athens' rapid transit lines. Train services on these lines are run by Hellenic Train S.A., a former OSE subsidiary, Rail Cargo Logistics Goldair, Pearl and Grup Feroviar Român.
The Acharnes Railway Center or SKA is a two-level railway station in the northern parts of the Athens agglomeration, in the city of Acharnes, where several important railway lines converge. It is an important passenger interchange station linking The main Piraeus–Platy railway line from Athens Central to Thessaloniki and the Athens Airport–Patras railway line connecting Athens International Airport and East Attica with the Athens agglomeration. The station opened in April 2011.
Kiato railway station is a station in Kiato in the northern Peloponnese, Greece. The station is located 1 km west of the town, near the A8 motorway between Athens and Patras. It was opened on 9 July 2007. The station is served by Line 2 and Line 5 of the Athens Suburban Railway between Piraeus and Aigio. It should not be confused with the now-closed station on the old Piraeus–Patras railway, which is located northeast of the current station, closer to the coast of the Corinthian Gulf.
The New Thessaloniki railway station is the main central passenger railway station and terminal of Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city. It is located in the central quarter of Xirokrini on Monastiriou Street and was inaugurated on 12 June 1961, the passenger station replaced the older and much smaller passenger station which now handles the city's cargo rail, hence the name "new railway station" which has been retained.
Athens railway station is the main railway station of Athens, and the second largest station in Greece. Located in the central quarter of Kolonos, the railway station resulted from the merger of two separate railway terminals in 2005—Larissa station of the Piraeus–Platy railway towards central and northern Greece, and the Peloponnese station of the Piraeus–Patras railway that formerly linked Athens with the Peloponnese.
The railway from Piraeus to Platy is an electrified double-track railway line that connects Athens to northern Greece and the rest of Europe. It constitutes the longest section of the mostly completed higher-speed rail line known as P.A.Th.E./P., which includes Greece's most important rail connection, that between Athens and Thessaloniki. Its northern end is the station of Platy, on the Thessaloniki–Bitola railway. In the south, it connects to the Athens Airport–Patras railway at the Acharnes Railway Center. The line passes through Thebes, Katerini and Larissa, and offers connections to several other cities through branch lines.
Oinoi railway station is a station on the Piraeus–Platy railway line in Oinoi in Boeotia, Greece. Located near the Motorway 1, and a short distance south of Oinoi. It is situated at the junction of the main Piraeus–Platy railway and the branch line to Chalcis. It is served by InterCity trains between Athens and Thessaloniki, and by Athens Suburban Railway services to Chalcis.
Leianokladi railway station is a railway station situated between Lamia and Leianokladi in Phthiotis, Greece. The station opened on 8 March 1904 It is situated at the junction of the main Athens-Thessaloniki line with the branch line to Lamia and Stylida. It is served by intercity trains between Athens and Thessaloniki and by local trains to Stylida.
The Athens Suburban Railway, is a five-line Proastiakos commuter rail service that connects the city of Athens with its metropolitan area and other regions beyond Attica, including Corinthia, Boeotia, Euboea and Achaea.
Kato Acharnes railway station is a station on the Piraeus–Platy railway line in Agioi Anargyroi, West Athens. This station opened on 27 February 2014. It owes its name to the area of Kato Acharnes, and is located next to Merimna Square.
Patras railway station is a railway station in Patras in the northwestern Peloponnese, Greece. The station is located in the center of the city, beside the north port on Piraeus–Patras line and Patras–Kyparissia line and is severed by both Proastiakos Patras Services. Pending the completion of the Athens Airport–Patras railway, it is also the starting point of TrainOSE bus lines to Aigio, Diakopto and Kiato, where connecting train services to Athens Airport and Piraeus are available. Diakopto is also the terminus of the unique rack railway to Kalavryta.
Amfikleia railway station is a railway station in Kato Tithorea, Phthiotis, Greece. The station opened in 1904. It consists of two brick-built structures on a signal platform. It serves the town of the same name, as well as the community of Eptalofos and Xylikoi. The station 2.3 km northeast of the town centre. The station has recently been renovated and reopened in July 2018. As of 2020, passenger service has been suspended.
In Greece, there are two similar classes of Stadler GTW trainsets, namely the 560 and the 4500, which are operated by TRAINOSE and are part of OSE rolling stock. These are suburban DMUs with two coaches, of type G.T.W. 2/6, which were built by a consortium of Stadler, Bombardier and Hellenic Shipyards and were put into operation by OSE, between 2003 and 2004. The trainsets are either standard or metre gauge, but with the same technical characteristics. They can be coupled in multiple coupling with up to three railcars.
Irakleio railway station is a station on the Piraeus–Platy railway line, located in the municipality of Irakleio, Attica close to the municipalities of Vrilissia, Maroussi, and Chalandri Greece. It was first opened on 30 July 2004 and is located in the median strip of Motorway 6, at the interchange of Pentelis Avenue, at the intersection of which with the railway line SKA - Athens International Airport has been built. Prior to its construction, it was referred to as "Ano Iraklio" station.
Metamorfosi railway station is a station on the Piraeus–Platy railway line, located on Kifisias Avenue in Marousi, a municipality in the regional unit of North Athens, Attica, Greece, located in the median strip of the Attiki Odos motorway. The station opened on 8 August 2010. The station consists of an island platform and a train storage line.
Stylida railway station is a railway station in Greece. The station opened 1905, along with the rest of the line. It is served by Regional services to Leianokladi.
Gorgopotamos railway station is a railway station situated between the Gorgopotamos Bridge and the village of Gorgopotamos. The station opened on 8 March 1904. It is served by local trains to Athens and Leianokladi. The old station buildings were located at the kilometer position 215 + 151 at an altitude of 93.75 meters The station is 2 hours and 49 minutes from Athens.
Line 1 is a Athens Suburban Railway services or (Proastiakos) Rapid transit line in Athens, Greece, managed by Hellenic Train. The service connects Piraeus with the Airport. The line shares a part of its course with lines 2 and 4, but also with lines 3 at Athens. The first Suburban line was inaugurated on 30 July 2004, using 17 OSE Class 560 DMUs between Larissa Station and the Airport. With the completion of the electrification of the sections of the line to Athens in 2017 and Piraeus in 2018. The line now exclusively uses OSE class 460 EMUs rolling stock.
