Lemlem Nibret (born 1 January 2005) is an Ethiopian long distance runner. [1]
In February 2023, she finished fifth in the individual and won gold in the team event at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships – U20 women's race. [2] [3]
In September 2023, she made her Diamond League debut in the 3000 metres in Xiamen. [4]
In October 2023, she finished second at the Cross Internacional Zornotza. [5] [6] She finished eighth at the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca on the World Cross Country Tour Gold. She was subsequently selected for the 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Serbia, [7] where she finished eighth with Ethiopian retaining their U20 team title. [8]
On 20 April 2024, she finished third in the 5000 metres at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi in a time of 15:20.99. [9]

She is the current women’s world record holder for 5,000 m (14:00.21), set at the 2023 final Diamond League event, the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is also where she won the World Athletics Championships on 5,000 m in 2022. At the World Athletics Championships, Tsegay also won the gold medal for 10,000 metres in 2023; a bronze for the 1,500 metres in 2019, and silver in 2022. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist in the women's 5,000 metres. She is a two-time World Indoor Championship 1,500 m medallist, claiming bronze in 2016 and gold in 2022. Irene Chepet Cheptai is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in track and cross country running. She was the gold medallist at the 2017 World Cross Country Championships and led Kenya to the team title. Cheptai won the silver medal for the 10,000 metres at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Beatrice Chebet is a Kenyan long-distance runner. In 2022, she won the silver medal in the 5000 metres at the World Championships, and became Commonwealth, African and Diamond League champion. Chebet claimed the gold medal for the women's senior race at the 2023 and 2024 World Cross Country Championships. She is also the current world record holder in the 10,000 metres, with a time of 28:54.14, set at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic on 25 May. In setting this record, Chebet became the first woman in history to break 29:00.00 in the 10,000 metres.
