Len Compton (born in Summerside,Prince Edward Island) is a Canadian politician who served as mayor of Kenora,Ontario from 2006 to 2010.
A lawyer who retired from practice in 2001,Compton served on Kenora's municipal council from 2003 to 2006. He defeated incumbent mayor Dave Canfield in the 2006 municipal election. [1]
In early 2008,Compton rejected a buyout offer from Thunder Bay Telephone for Kenora's municipally-owned telephone service provider,citing that an agreement in principle had already been reached to sell the system to Bell Aliant. [2]
Compton announced in spring 2010 that he would not run for re-election in the 2010 municipal election. [3] Canfield was re-elected as his successor. [4]
As mayor,Compton was instrumental in the decision to have the Ontario Provincial Police provide policing to Kenora,which resulted in the disbandment of the town police force in 2009. One of the factors in the decision was the increased focus of the OPP on traffic enforcement. [5] Ironically,in March 2011,Compton was arrested by the OPP while driving in Kenora and charged with exceeding the alcohol limit. [6]

On January 4,2011,Fantino was named Minister of State for Seniors;on May 18,2011,he became Associate Minister of National Defence;on July 4,2012,he was named Minister for International Cooperation. Fantino served as the Minister of Veterans Affairs from 2013 until 2015,when he was demoted to his earlier post of Associate Minister of National Defence following sustained criticism of his performance at Veterans Affairs. He was defeated by Liberal candidate Francesco Sorbara in the 2015 election.

David S. Canfield is a Canadian politician who served as the mayor of Kenora,Ontario from 2000 to 2006 and from 2010 to 2018. Formerly the mayor of Jaffray Melick,Canfield was elected mayor of the newly amalgamated city in 2000. Prior to being mayor,he was a loader operator at the local paper mill. In 2005,Canfield became the first public figure in Northwestern Ontario to publicly advocate the secession of the region from Ontario to join the province of Manitoba.

The Kenora Thistles were a Canadian senior ice hockey club from Kenora,Ontario. The club most recently played in the 2015–16 season in the Hockey Northwestern Ontario and were hosts of the 2011 Allan Cup.
