The college was established by a group of trio friends on 1 June 2003 under Sri Lokeswara Educational Society. Till 2010 the college was affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University and further the affiliation changed to Yogi Vemana University

The Government College Manimalakunnu is an arts and science college situated in the Eastern part of Ernakulam District. Yogi Vemana is a 1947 Telugu-language biographical film produced and directed by K. V. Reddy. The story is based on the life of saint poet Vemana. V. Nagayya played the role of Vemana and also composed music and sang many poems and songs in this film exposing his multifaceted talents.

Chittajallu Srinivasa Rao was an Indian actor, writer and director. He was the son of film director Chittajallu Pullayya. He directed around 65 films in the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Oriya languages. He garnered two National Film Awards for directing the films Lava Kusa (1963) and Desamante Manushuloyi (1970). Directors including Muktha V. Srinivasan and K. S. Sethu Madhavan worked as his assistants.
