The Ligurian regional election of 1990 took place on 6 May 1990.
Christian Democracy and the Italian Communist Party lost many votes, especially to Ligurian Union and the Greens. After the election Christian Democrat Giacomo Gualco formed a government with the Italian Socialist Party and their centrist allies. In 1992 Glauco was replaced by Edmondo Ferrero, to whom Giancarlo Mori succeeded in 1994.

Lega Nord Liguria is a regionalist political party in Liguria. It joined Lega Nord in 1991 and, since then, it has functioned as its "national" section in the region.

The politics of Italy are conducted through a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Italy has been a democratic republic since 2 June 1946, when the monarchy was abolished by popular referendum and a constituent assembly was elected to draft a constitution, which was promulgated on 1 January 1948.
Liguria is a coastal region of north-western Italy; its capital is Genoa. The region almost coincides with the Italian Riviera and is popular with tourists for its beaches, towns, and cuisine.
The Christian Democratic Centre was a Christian democratic political party in Italy from 1994 to 2002. The CCD was a member of the European People's Party (EPP).
The Pole of Freedoms was a centre-right political and electoral alliance in Italy, launched at the 1994 general election by Silvio Berlusconi. Its counterpart in central and southern Italy was the Pole of Good Government.
