Wakiso District is a district in the Central Region of Uganda that partly encircles Kampala, Uganda's capital city. The town of Wakiso is the site of the district headquarters. Kira, the country's second largest city and suburb of Kampala, is in the district.
The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity that campaigns to "Keep Wildlife in the Wild". It protects wild animals in their natural habitat, campaigns against the keeping of wild animals in captivity and rescues wild animals in need. It also promotes compassionate conservation, which takes into account the welfare of individual animals in conservation initiatives. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, is an island sanctuary in Uganda, dedicated to the care of orphaned eastern chimpanzees, that have been rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Many of the chimpanzees were rescued from poachers and are unlikely to survive reintroduction to the wild. The Sanctuary is acredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous Ugandan government agency that aims to conserve, manage and regulate Uganda’s wildlife. "UWA is mandated to ensure sustainable management of wildlife resources and supervise wildlife activities in Uganda, both within and outside the protected areas". As of April 2020, UWA manages ten national parks, twelve wildlife reserves, and fourteen wildlife sanctuaries. UWA also provides guidance for five community wildlife areas. It is governed by a board of trustees appointed by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, currently Tom Butime.
Janat Balunzi Mukwaya is a politician and former Major in the military of Uganda. Currently she is a Senior Presidential Advisor Before that, she previously served as the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister from 16 February 2009 until 27 May 2011. the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Affairs from 6 June 2016 until December 2019. Minister of Trade and Industry from June 2006 until February 2009. In May 2011, she temporarily retired from politics and was replaced in the cabinet by Kiddu Makubuya. She also served as the elected member of Parliament for Mukono South Constituency in Mukono District, from 2006 until her retirement in 2011.
Maria Emily Lubega Mutagamba was a Ugandan economist and politician. She was the minister of tourism, wildlife and antiquities in the Ugandan Cabinet from 15 August 2012 until 6 June 2016.
Patrick Bitature is a Ugandan businessman, entrepreneur and author. He is the second wealthiest Ugandan after Sudhir Ruparelia. He is the founder, chairman and Group CEO of the Simba Group of Companies which is primarily based in East Africa. The Simba Group of Companies started in 1998 with the flagship telecom business but has since grown to a conglomerate of East Africa-based companies spanning telecoms, properties, power generation, agro-business, mining, tourism and media. At the end of 2011, the group employed over 600 direct staff and 1,500 indirect staff.
Winifred Byanyima, is a Ugandan aeronautical engineer, politician, human rights activist, feminist and diplomat. She is the executive director of UNAIDS, effective November 2019.
Jennifer Semakula Musisi is a Ugandan lawyer and public administrator. She is the first City Leader in Residence at Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative at the Ash Center of the Harvard Kennedy School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. She was appointed to this position in January 2019.
The Uganda Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) is the cabinet-level ministry responsible for the promotion of tourism, the preservation and welfare of wildlife, and the preservation, improvement and safekeeping of natural and other national historic sites and monuments.
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was a government agency mandated to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise the government on general roads policy, contribute to the addressing of national transport concerns, and perform certain other functions. UNRA is charged with, among other things, the selection of contractors, the supervision of construction, the scheduling of maintenance, and the prioritization of national road works.
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), also known as the Uganda National Petroleum Authority, is governmental organisation that regulates the petroleum industry in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community. Its responsibilities include licensing, regulation, supervision of exploration, harvesting, refining, marketing, and disposal of petroleum products in the country. Although owned by the Ugandan government, it is expected to act independently.
Judith Tukahirwa Tumusiime is a Ugandan environmental scientist, water and sanitation consultant, and former management executive. She is the immediate past deputy executive director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She was appointed to that position in December 2012. She resigned on 31 October 2016, citing interference from politicians and security agencies.
Amos Masaba Wekesa, is a businessman, entrepreneur and corporate executive in Uganda, who is the founder, proprietor and managing director of Great Lakes Safaris Limited, a tour operating company, in the African Great Lakes region. His conglomerate of related tour businesses grosses an estimated US$8 million annually, and employs in excess of 250 people.
Uganda Airlines, legally Uganda National Airlines Company, is the flag carrier of Uganda. The company is a revival of the older Uganda Airlines which operated from 1977 until 2001. The current carrier began flying in August 2019.
Nadine Byarugaba, is a Ugandan businesswoman, and management consultant. She is the current chairperson of the board of directors of Absa Bank Uganda Limited, effective 28 July 2020. Before that, from September 2019, she served on the same board, as chairperson in acting capacity, replacing Swithin Munyantwali, who was appointed non-executive director to the board of Absa Group Limited.
Shakila Rahim Lamar, is a Ugandan businesswoman, public relations professional and corporate executive who was appointed as Head of Public Relations and Corporate Affairs at Uganda Airlines, the national carrier of that country, effective December 2021. Immediately before her current position, she was the Head Corporate Communications at Uganda Road Fund.
Jenifer Bamuturaki is a Ugandan businesswoman and corporate executive, who is the chief executive officer of Uganda Airlines, the national airline of Uganda, since July 2022. Before that she was the acting CEO.
Rwengeye Central Forest Reserve is a protected tropical high forest in the Kiryanga and Pacwa subcounties in Kibaale District in Western Uganda. It covers an area of 329 hecatres (3.24 km²). It is operated by the National Forestry Authority (NFA). Its WDPA ID is 39999. It was declared a forest reserve in 1932.
