Limak Holding A.S. is a Turkish conglomerate, with major interests in construction, energy, cement, and tourism. Its assets include the Limak Cement and Limak Energy companies and the Limak Tourism Group. [2] In 2012, it had around $260m revenue from construction. [3]

Limak was launched in 1976 by Sezai Bacaksız and Nihat Özdemir, with Özdemir focussing on cement and energy while Bacaksız focussed on airports and tourism. [4]

Recent history

In 2013, Limak Holding was part of a joint venture which won the EUR22bn contract to construct a third international airport in Istanbul. [5] The group had previously been part of a joint venture which in 2007 won a 20-year concession to operate Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, [6] and in 2007, together with French firm Aéroport de Lyon, won the concession tender for Pristina International Airport Adem Jashari. [7]

In 2013, it was part of a joint venture which acquired the daily newspaper Akşam , together with TV channel Sky Turk 360 and radio station Alem FM, for TL60m. [8]

In 2013 Nihat Özdemir was among the 41 suspects who were issued arrest orders in the second corruption probe. Prosecutors also appear to be targeting construction companies involved in some of the government’s showpiece infrastructure projects. Those named in media reports included Nihat Ozdemir, head of Limak Group, part of a consortium that won the €22 billion tender to build Istanbul’s third airport». Via IC İçtaş Energy it is part owner with IC Holding of two coal-fired power stations in Turkey, Kemeköy power station and Yeniköy power station. [11] [12] Climate TRACE estimates IC İçtaş Energy’s coal-fired power stations emitted over 5 million tons of the country's total 730 million tons of greenhouse gas in 2022, [13] [14] and it has been put on the Urgewald Global Coal Exit List. [15]

Within the scope of the 'Our Love, Our Energy is with You' project, which was started in 2021, the company provided food and water aid to stray animals that had difficulty in finding food due to the cold weather in the winter months. [16]

Yeniköy power station is a 420 MW coal-fired power station in Turkey in Yeniköy, Muğla built in the late 20th century, which burns lignite mined locally. The plant is owned by Limak- IC İçtaş and in 2020 it received 93 million lira ($16,000,000) capacity payments. The area is a sulfur dioxide air pollution hotspot and as of 2017 the air pollution caused by Yeniköy and neighboring Yatağan power station and Kemerköy power station is estimated to have caused 45,000 premature deaths. It is estimated that closing the plant by 2030, instead of when its licence ends in 2063, would prevent over 7000 premature deaths.

Eren Holding is a conglomerate headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey. It has business interests in paper, packaging, cement, energy, retail and textiles. The holding company was established in 1997, although the history of the group dates back to 1969.

The 2020 Turkish Super Cup was the 47th edition of the Turkish Super Cup since its establishment as Presidential Cup in 1966, the annual Turkish football match contested by the winners of the previous season's top league and cup competitions. It was played on 27 January 2021 between the champions of the 2019–20 Süper Lig, İstanbul Başakşehir, and the winners of the 2019–20 Turkish Cup, Trabzonspor. The venue initially selected was Doha, the capital of Qatar. However, the Turkish Football Federation later announced the venue would be changed to the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
