William Jennings Jefferson is an American former politician from Louisiana whose career ended after his corruption scandal and conviction. He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for nine terms from 1991 to 2009 as a member of the Democratic Party. He represented Louisiana's 2nd congressional district,which includes much of the greater New Orleans area. He was elected as the state's first black congressman since the end of Reconstruction.
Edward Robert Vrdolyak,also known as "Fast Eddie",is a former American politician and lawyer. In Texas,Earle was known for his criminal justice reform efforts which focused on crime prevention,alternative sentencing,victim advocacy,and the reintegration of former offenders into society. In 1983,Earle –an Eagle Scout –prosecuted himself for an election law violation after missing a campaign finance filing deadline by one day;he was fined $212. Earle was a fixture in Travis County politics and served in public office there for more than 30 years,joking that he was asked if he was the "District Eternity".

The Cockerham bribery case involved the investigation and subsequent trials of United States Army contracting officers and their family members who were accused of accepting bribes in return for steering multimillion-dollar contracts to companies providing services for the US Army in Iraq and Kuwait between 2004 and 2007. The alleged ringleader of the accused officers was US Army Major John L. Cockerham,who was sentenced to 17 and 1/2 years in prison for accepting bribes from Army contractors. The contracts,mainly for bottled water,involved at least three US Army contracting officers,two of their family members,six companies from India,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait,and the United States,and up to $15 million in bribe money.

David M. Nangle is an American state legislator and convicted felon who served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1999 to 2020. He is a Lowell resident and a member of the Democratic Party. While a member of the House,he served as the chair of the House Ethics committee. In February 2021,Nangle pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud,bank fraud,making false statements to a bank,and filing false tax returns and was sentenced to 15 months in prison and two years of supervised release. He was released from federal custody on November 10,2022.

A study published by the University of Illinois Chicago in 2022 ranked Illinois as the second most corrupt state in the nation,with 4 out of the last 11 governors serving time in prison.
