History

Link3 Technologies Ltd was founded in 2000 by Sheikh Raihan Ahmed & Sajjid Haider Pasha in Dhaka. [5] Link3 is an official licensee of Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to provide nationwide Data Connectivity & Internet Service & Domestic Data Communication Service. It has obtained ISP license [license No.-BTRC/LL/ISP-Nationwide (10) Link3/2008-79] From BTRC. [6]

Moreover, Link3 Technologies Limited acquired BTRC approved Internet Protocol Telephony Service Provider (IPTSP) license in September 2009. [7] Since then Link3 Technologies Limited has been providing IP Telephony service to its valued customer. [7]  Link3 has state of the art voice over IP infrastructure for domestic and international telecommunication. [8] Link3 has redundant connectivity with ICX (Inter Communication Exchange) for domestic Mobile/PSTN calls and with IGW (International Gateway) for ISD calls. [8]

With the approval of BTRC for providing Domestic Data Communication, IPTS Link3 has built its nationwide network with the foot print of 64 Districts. Link3 Technologies Ltd. Has installed 262 individual PoP (Point of Presence) to build its nationwide network. [9]

Expansion plan

Link3 have applied to the Bangladesh Government to launch native communication apps like WhatsApp and Viber. [10] [11]

Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited, operating under the enterprise Citycell, was the oldest mobile operator of Bangladesh. It was the 1st mobile operator company in Bangladesh and one of the pioneering telecommunications network companies in South Asia, along with Etisalat of Sri Lanka and Paktel of Pakistan. It was the only mobile operator in the country using CDMA and EVDO technology. Citycell's total mobile subscriber base was 0.142 million as of August 2016. The ownership structure of Citycell was divided amongst SingTel (44.54%), Pacific Motors (37.95%) and Far East Telecom (17.51%). It was the smallest mobile operator of Bangladesh in terms of subscribers. In 2016, it ceased operations, due to the firms inability to pay dues ordered by the BTRC in 2016.

The telecommunications industry in China is dominated by three state-run businesses: China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile. The three companies were formed by restructuring launched in May 2008, directed by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Minister of Finance. Since then, all three companies gained nationwide fixed-line and cellular mobile telecom licenses in China. In 2019, all three telecoms were issued 5G national licenses.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is an independent commission founded under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001. The BTRC is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications of Bangladesh. The chairman of the commission has the status of a judge of the Bangladesh High Court. Md Mohiuddin Ahmed is the chairman of the commission.

Bahrain has been connected to the internet since 1995, and made it readily available to its citizens. The country's domain suffix is '.bh'. A 2004 study showed a liberal filtering system is used in Bahrain, one which can be easily bypassed, however more recent events have shown more sophisticated and pervasive filtering. In January 2009, Bahrain has started blocking a vastly increased number of sites through the Information Affairs Authority (IAA). The new filtering has had a noticeable impact in internet access speeds for all traffic.

Like many developed and developing countries, the Internet in Bangladesh has witnessed significant growth. Although facing many constraints in expanding Internet access and use, development of the Internet and Information Technology are high government priorities. In March, 2021 Internet users in Bangladesh increased to 116 million. On 19 February 2018, Bangladesh started the 4G network service.

It was one of the first countries in South Asia to introduce television on 25 December 1964, in the then East Pakistan under the state-owned television network Pakistan Television Corporation in its capital, Dhaka. After the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the Dhaka television station of PTV was renamed to Bangladesh Television, which had a monopoly on the country's television industry until 1997, with the launch of ATN Bangla on satellite television. Since then, the number of privately owned television channels saw a tremendous rise in the Bangladeshi television market.
