Nigula Nature Reserve Protected area in Estonia

Nigula Nature Reserve is a nature reserve situated in South-West of Estonia, in Häädemeeste and Saarde parishes of Pärnu County. It has an area of 63.98 km². Nigula nature reserve is one of the oldest bog reserves in Estonia. It is established to protect the Nigula Bog and its surrounding forests in their natural state.

Flood-meadow

A flood-meadow is an area of grassland or pasture beside a river, subject to seasonal flooding. Flood-meadows are distinct from water-meadows in that the latter are artificially created and maintained, with flooding controlled on a seasonal and even daily basis.

Protected areas of Estonia are regulated by the Nature Conservation Act, which was passed by the Estonian parliament on April 21, 2004 and entered into force May 10, 2004. Overall Estonia has 15403 Protected Areas covering 21.21% of the country land and 18.78% of it marine and coastal territory.

Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve Protected area in Estonia

Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve is the largest nature reserve in Estonia. It is a vast wilderness area which covers 342 km2 and consists of a complex of 5 large bogs separated by unregulated rivers, their floodplains, and extensive forests. The nature reserve aims to protect diverse ecosystems and rare species, mainly through preserving the natural development of forests and bogs and securing the continuing management of semi-natural floodplain grasslands.

Ord River Floodplain

The Ord River floodplain is the floodplain of the lower Ord River in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, in the Kimberley region of northern Western Australia. It lies within the Victoria Bonaparte IBRA bioregion and contains river, seasonal creek, tidal mudflat and floodplain wetlands, with extensive stands of mangroves, that support saltwater crocodiles and many waterbirds. It is recognised as an internationally important wetland area, with 1,384 square kilometres (534 sq mi) of it designated on 7 June 1990 as Ramsar Site 477 under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

Gunnersbury Triangle is a 2.57-hectare (6.4-acre) local nature reserve in the London boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, immediately to the east of Gunnersbury. It was created in 1983 when, for the first time in Britain, a public inquiry ruled that a planned development of the land could not go ahead because of its value for nature. It opened as a nature reserve in 1985.

Groenkloof Nature Reserve

The Groenkloof Nature Reserve, located adjacent to the Fountains Valley at the southern entrance to Pretoria, was the first game sanctuary in Africa. The reserve of 600 ha is managed by the Department of Nature Conservation. The National Heritage Monument is located within the reserve. It is flanked by Christina de Wit Avenue and Nelson Mandela Drive, that separate it from the Voortrekker Monument and Klapperkop Nature Reserves. In aggregate these reserves conserve some 1,400 ha of bankenveld vegetation which is threatened in Gauteng. The reserve is open to day visitors from 5:30 to 19:00 in summer, and 7:00 to 18:00 in winter.

Murrumbidgee Valley National Park Protected area in New South Wales, Australia

The Murrumbidgee Valley National Park is a protected national park that is located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The 47,703-hectare (117,880-acre) national park is located approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) east of Hay, and approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west of Narrandera. The park protects part of what is now the largest continuous tract of river red gum forest in the world.

Khopyor Nature Reserve

The Khopyor Nature Reserve is a Russian zapovednik that protects a 50-km-long stretch of the Khopyor River in the Voronezh Oblast. About 80% of the area is covered by forests, floodplain, and upland oak woods, with small areas of steppe and meadowlands. There are about 400 lakes and oxbows. The reserve is situated in the Novokhopyorsky District of Voronezh Oblast.

Central Black Earth Nature Reserve

Central Tsernozemsky Nature Reserve is a Russian 'zapovednik' that protects for scientific study a collection of selected sites of black soil prairie in the southwestern part of the Central Uplands within the middle of the forest-steppe zone. The six sites of the reserve spread out to the southeast of the city of Kursk, in the Medvensky District, Manturovsky District, Gorshechensky District of Kursk Oblast. Officially, the site is named after the biologist VV Alekhine. The reserve was created in 1935, and covers an area of 5,287 ha (20.41 sq mi). In 1978 it was included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Voronina Nature Reserve

Voronina (Voroninsky) Nature Reserve is a strict ecological reserve located in the valley of the Vorona River, in the forest-steppe zone of southwest Russia. The Voroninsky Reserve protects riverine wetlands in the southeast of the Oka–Don Plain. The reserve is situated in Kirsanovsky and Inzhavinsky districts of Tambov Oblast, about 100 km southeast of the city of Tambov. It was created in 1994, and covers an area of 10,819 ha (41.77 sq mi).

Mordovski Nature Reserve

Mordovski Nature Reserve is a Russian 'zapovednik' in the north of the Republic of Mordovia, on the forested right bank of the Moksha River. It is in the transition zone of coniferous-deciduous forests and steppe. The reserve covers one-sixth of the Temnikovsky District of Mordovia. It was formally established in 1935, and covers a total area of 32,148 ha (124.12 sq mi). Its official name honors Pyotr Smidovich, a Soviet revolutionary and government official who was instrumental in establishing the Mordovsky Reserve.

Luhansk Nature Reserve

Luhansk Nature Reserve is an administrative collection of four individual national nature reserves of Ukraine. Located in Luhansk Oblast, the easternmost province of Ukraine, the Luhansk reserves were affected by hostilities in the area in 2014. Originally established as a strict reserve for conservation and scientific study, public access is prohibited. The four components each exhibit a different aspect of the steppe ecology of eastern Ukraine.
