Guwahati is the biggest city of the Indian state of Assam and also the largest metropolis in northeastern India. Dispur, the capital of Assam, is in the circuit city region located within Guwahati and is the seat of the Government of Assam. A major riverine port city along with hills, and one of the fastest growing cities in India, Guwahati is situated on the south bank of the Brahmaputra. It is called the ''Gateway to North East India''.
Dibrugarh is an industrial city in Upper Assam with sprawling tea gardens. It is located 435 kms East from the state capital of Dispur. It serves as the headquarters of Dibrugarh district in the state of Assam in India. Dibrugarh serves as the headquarters of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, which is the governing council of the Sonowal Kachari tribe.
Jorhat is an administrative district of the Indian state of Assam situated in the central part of the Brahmaputra Valley. The district is bounded by Majuli on north, Nagaland state on the south, Charaideo on the east and Golaghat on the west. On the north of the district, the river Brahmaputra forms the largest riverine island of the world. The administrative seat is at Jorhat city.
Asomiya Pratidin is an Assamese daily newspaper, caters whole Assam with five editions published from Guwahati, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, and North Lakhimpur, Assam, India. The fifth edition is the web version, available to all. It is the largest circulated Assamese daily. The other periodical and magazines published under Pratidin group are Nandini, Sadin & Satsari.
Assamese cinema, also known as Jollywood, is an Indian film industry of Assamese-language motion pictures. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style, especially with the movies of Bhabendra Nath Saikia and Jahnu Barua. The industry is called Jollywood, named for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.
Prof Bhabananda Deka was a pioneer Assam economist and author who conducted novel research on the economy of the far eastern part of India. He was also a leading Indian-Assamese litterateur of the famed 'Awahon-Ramdhenu Era' of Assamese literature during the mid-20th century. He was the author of a total of 115 English and Assamese books including textbooks on a range of fifteen subjects including economics, ancient Assamese literature, philosophy, education, religion, mythology, archaeology, tribal study, poetry, drama, memoirs, civics, political science, biographies; he also edited books and journals. He also authored a variety of research papers and articles about the state of Assam, a state in the north-eastern part of India. He pioneered the writing of books on Economics in Assamese. His Assamese book Axomor Arthaneeti was the first ever research-based comprehensive book on Assam Economics, which was published for the first time in 1963. He was conferred with the honorary title of 'Asom Ratna' -- 'Jewel of Assam' by the intellectuals of Assam on 19 August 2007 at a public meet held under the presidency of Prof. (Dr) Satyendra Narayan Goswami.
Dainik Jugasankha, also transliterated Dainik Yugashankha, is a Bengali daily newspaper published simultaneously from Kolkata, Guwahati, Silchar, Siliguri and Durgapur. With a circulation of around 150,000 copies, it is one of the top ten newspapers in Assam.
Pabitra Kumar Deka was a progressive writer, columnist, publisher and editor of monthly magazine, film critic and script writer of the State of Assam in India. He is the winner of the Best Film Critic Award in 1988 from the Eastern India Motion Picture Association. The Government of Assam has instituted the State Best Film Critic Award in the name of Pabitra Kumar Deka Award from 2010 after his death.
Niyomiya Barta is an Indian Assamese language daily newspaper. The newspaper was launched on 4 March 2011. It is published simultaneously from Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Biswanath Chariali and Goalpara of Assam. Niyomiya Barta is run and published by Pride East Entertainment Private Limited.
Imran Shah, also known as Nawab Imran Shah is an Indian Assamese language writer, poet, novelist, and scholar. He also writes under the pen names Ishan Dutta, Anamika Baruah, Kumbhakarna, and Animesh Baruah. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2021, for his contributions to literature and education.
Kaliram Medhi was a prominent linguist, writer and essayist from Assam who wrote in both the Assamese and English languages in the early part of modern Assamese literature. He was the third president of the Asom Sahitya Sabha in 1919 held at Barpeta. He was honoured with the Rai Bahadur title in 1946. Versatile Assamese short story writer and Professor of Physics and later a lifetime associate at Assam Engineering College Surendra Nath Medhi better known by his pen name Saurav Kumar Chaliha was his son and noted Mathematician, Emeritus Professor of statistics at Gauhati University and Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology Jyotiprasad Medhi was his grandson as he was the son of his daughter Kadambari Medhi and her husband Binandi Chandra Medhi.
Jorhat is one of the important cities and a growing urban centre in the state of Assam in India.
Nalini Prava Deka was an author, poet, storyteller, actress and playwright from Assam, a state in India encompassing the Brahmaputra Valley. She was honoured at a 2012 gathering in Ledo by the Assam Sahitya Sabha. Deka promoted Assamese heritage, traditional customs, weaving and fabric art, cooking and folk music with her husband, Bhabananda Deka. They researched traditional Assamese lifestyle, art, literature and culture. Deka was the first female editor and publisher of a children's magazine, Phul (Flower), and wrote 30 critically praised books. All India Radio broadcast Deka's radio plays on issues related to women and children.
Pratidin Time is a 24-hour Assamese news channel. The programs of the channel include various infotainment, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, showbiz, fashion, and education.
Dainik Asam is one of the oldest daily Assamese Newspaper running to date. It was first published on 4 August 1965. This newspaper was one of the outcomes of the honest efforts of the late Radha Govinda Baruah. It is published from Guwahati and Dibrugarh.

Ajit Kumar Bhuyan is a member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, from the state of Assam. He was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on 18 March 2020. He is also an Indian journalist, author and former editor of the Asomiya Pratidin, Aji, Natun Samay, and Prag News.
Medini Mohan Choudhury, known by his pen name as Medini Choudhury, was a Bodo novelist, short story writer, columnist, critic and a retired civil services officer. He wrote thirty books in Assamese language and two books in English, including Ananya Prantor, a novel which is recognized one of the prominent writings in Assamese literature.
Japarkuchi is an urban locality in Nalbari district, Assam, India. As per the 2011 Census of India, Japarkuchi has a population of 4,626 people including 2331 males and 2295 females, with a literacy rate of 87.44%.
