The following is a list of seasons completed by the Charleston Southern Buccaneers football team. The Buccaneers compete in the Big South Conference of the NCAA Division I FCS. Initially competing as a member of the NAIA, Charleston Southern gained Division III status in 1991 and competed at that level for two seasons until becoming a full-fledged Division I member in 1993. [1] After playing as an independent, the Buccaneers joined the Big South in 2002 and have played in the conference ever since.
Charleston Southern has three conference championships to its pedigree, coming in 2005, 2015, and 2016. Charleston Southern has had only five head coaches in their fledgling history. [2] The current Buccaneer head coach is Gabe Giardina. In 2013, Jamey Chadwell led Charleston Southern to a 10–3 record in his first season at the school, which was followed by an 8–4 mark in 2014. In 2015, the Buccaneers made their first ever postseason trip, advancing to the FCS quarterfinals before falling to Jacksonville State. They repeated as Big South champions in 2016.

The Liberty Flames football program represents Liberty University, a private Christian university located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in college football. The Flames compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as a member of Conference USA. The program, which previously competed in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), announced it would start a transition to the top level of NCAA football in July 2017. The Flames became a provisional FBS member in 2018, and became a full FBS member with bowl eligibility in 2019. In 2020, Liberty entered the rankings in the AP Poll at 25 for the first time in program history.
The Charleston Southern Buccaneers football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Charleston Southern University located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Big South Conference. Charleston Southern's first football team was fielded in 1991. The team plays its home games at the 4,000 seat Buccaneer Field in North Charleston, South Carolina and are currently coached by Gabe Giardina.
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers football program is the intercollegiate American football team for East Tennessee State University (ETSU) located in Johnson City, Tennessee. The team was dormant from the end of the 2003 season until being reinstated for the 2015 season. They played all of their 2015 home games and all but one of their 2016 home games at Kermit Tipton Stadium before the opening of the new William B. Greene Jr. Stadium for the 2017 season. The remaining 2016 home game, against Western Carolina on September 17, was played at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway, which was already set up for football due to a game the prior week between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Before ETSU dropped football, it competed in NCAA Division I as a Southern Conference (SoCon) football program. The revived program played as an independent in 2015 before returning to the SoCon in 2016.
The 2011 Charleston Southern Buccaneers football team represented Charleston Southern University as a member of the Big South Conference during the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by ninth-year head coach Jay Mills, the Buccaneers compiled an overall record of 0–11 with a mark of 0–6 in conference play, placing last out of seven teams in the Big South. Jamey Chadwell is an American college football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at Liberty University, a position he has held since the 2023 season. Chadwell served as the head football coach at North Greenville University from 2009 to 2011, Delta State University in 2012, Charleston Southern University from 2013 and 2016, and Coastal Carolina University, first in an interim capacity in 2017 and then on a permanent basis from 2019 to 2022.
