List of Czech serial killers

A serial killer is typically a person who murders three or more people, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant period of time between them. [1] [2] The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines serial killing as "a series of two or more murders, committed as separate events, usually, but not always, by one offender acting alone". [3] [4]

Gang of serial killers who, between 1991 and 1993, killed five people (mostly businessmen) for monetary gain. One of the members committed a murder on his own and attempted another, but the victim in the latter attack survived.

The 2013 Czech political corruption scandal started with a raid against organized crime which was conducted in the Czech Republic in June 2013 by the Police Unit for Combating Organized Crime and the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Olomouc. It involved several highly positioned state officers and politicians, as well as controversial entrepreneurs and lobbyists. The scandal affected the top levels of Czech politics, including Prime Minister Petr Nečas and his coalition government. On 17 June 2013, it resulted in the resignation of the Prime Minister and the cabinet. Nečas also quit as leader of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS).

Finále Plzeň is a film festival based in the Czech Republic. It focuses on Czech feature and documentary films. The best film is awarded the Golden Kingfisher by a jury. It was founded in 1967 and the first year was held in 1968. The festival was held in 1970 but the Golden Kingfisher wasn't awarded. The festival wasn't held again until 1990, when 12 films were awarded the Kingfisher to represent Czech and Slovak cinematography from the 1969-1990 period.

Viktor Kalivoda, also known as the "Forest Killer", was a Czech spree killer who shot three people.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bohumín arson attack</span> Fire in Czech Republic

The Bohumín arson attack took place on 8 August 2020 at an apartment building on Nerudova Street in the town of Bohumín, roughly 300 km north-east of Prague, Czech Republic. Eleven people were killed and fifteen were injured. Police arrested 54-year-old arsonist Zdeněk Konopka in front of the building. The perpetrator, who had four prior criminal convictions, admitted to pouring 8 liters of gasoline into plastic bottles at a nearby petrol station and going to his son's flat. It was bustling with people who were celebrating a birthday party to which the perpetrator was not invited. He poured the gasoline in the hallway within the flat and then onto the entrance doors and set it ablaze. This led to the extremely fast spread of the fire throughout the flat with no escape route possible.

Metoda Markovič: Hojer is Czech crime television series produced by TV Nova. It is about investigation of murders committed by serial killer Ladislav Hojer which was led by Jiří Markovič who was known for unorthodox investigative methods. Markovič himself collaborated with filmmakers before his death.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Prague shootings</span> Mass murder in the Czech Republic

On 21 December 2023, 14 people were killed and 22 injured in a mass shooting at the main Faculty of Arts building of Charles University in central Prague, Czech Republic. Another three people were injured when the perpetrator opened fire toward the streets from the faculty's fourth-floor rooftop terrace. After having been engaged by the police, the perpetrator, 24-year-old postgraduate student David Kozák, committed suicide by shooting himself. Before the attack, his father was found murdered at his home in Hostouň.

David Kozák was a Czech mass murderer and postgraduate student at Charles University. He is responsible for the 2023 Prague shootings in which he attacked the Faculty of Arts in Prague, and killed a man and his infant daughter in Klánovice six days prior. Kozák also murdered his own father prior to attacking the university. After the shootings, he killed himself just before police reached him.

Jiří Markovič was a Czech policeman and criminalist who is best known for catching serial killers Ladislav Hojer and Jiří Straka. During his career he caught 7 murderers who received Capital punishment.

Metoda Markovič: Straka is an upcoming Czech crime series. It serves as second season of Metoda Markovič: Hojer. It will focus on investigation of murders committed by Jiří Straka which was led by Jiří Markovič who previously caught another serial killer Ladislav Hojer. Straka was a minor who raped 11 women and murdered 3 of them in Spring 1985 during period of preparations for Spartakiad celebrations which earned him nickname Spartakiad Killer.

Jiří Kajínek is a Czech criminal, celebrity and influencer. In 1998, he was convicted of a contracted double murder of Štefan Janda and Julián Pokoš and one attempted murder of Vojtěch Pokoš, subsequently he was given a life sentence. During his sentence, he attempted to, and was able to escape prison multiple times. In the Czech Republic, Kajínek's case has become common knowledge and public discourse has emerged debating his guilt.

Roman Horáček (1969–2006) was a Czechoslovak serial killer who murdered three women in his hometown of Litoměřice between 1990 and 1991, one of which he was linked to via DNA after but never convicted.

Karel Šťovíček is a Czech serial killer. He murdered two women in the Bohemian Paradise region in 2021, after being released from a previous accessory to murder conviction dating back to 1998. For his new crimes, he would later be convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Michal Semanský, known as The Angel of Death, is a Czech serial killer who murdered three elderly people from 2009 to 2012 with the motive to robbery. He would later be tried, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

David Virgulák, known as The Taxi Killer, is a Czech serial killer who murdered three taxi drivers in Prague and the surrounding areas from January to April 2014. He would later be arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for these crimes.
