Lakshmipur is a district of Bangladesh with an area of 1,440.39 km2. It is bordered by Chandpur to the north, Bhola and Noakhali districts to the south, Noakhali to the east, and Barisal and Bhola districts to the west. Lakshmipur was part of Noakhali until 15 February 1984. At that time, the western part of Noakhali was promoted from Lakshmipur subdivision to Lakshmipur district to provide administrative facilities.

Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC), commonly known as Mitford, is a public medical college in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded in 1875, it is the oldest and second largest medical school in Bangladesh. It includes Mitford Hospital, which is the oldest hospital in the country and one of the earliest hospitals in the Indian subcontinent from where the evolution of medical education started.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1971 killing of Bengali intellectuals</span> War crime by the Pakistan Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971

In 1971, the Pakistan Army and their local collaborators, most notably the extreme right wing militia group Al-Badr, engaged in the systematic execution of Bengali intellectuals during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Bengali intellectuals were abducted, tortured and killed during the entire duration of the war as part of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide. However, the largest number of systematic executions took place on 25 March and 14 December 1971, two dates that bookend the conflict. 14 December is commemorated in Bangladesh as Martyred Intellectuals Day.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Asiatic Society of Bangladesh</span> Non-profit research organisation in Bangladesh

The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist. The society is housed in Nimtali, walking distance from the Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, locality of Old Dhaka.

Dewan Mohammad Azraf was a Bengali philosopher, teacher, author, politician, journalist and activist. In 1993, he was honoured as a National Professor in Bangladesh. He was also a supporter of the Bengali Language Movement. For his support of the movement, he was dismissed from the post of the principal of Sunamganj College in 1954, the same year he was promoted to the post. His support was particularly influential when he edited the Nao Belal in 1948. He was actively involved with Kaikobad Sahitya Majlish (1972–99).

Subir Nandi was a Bangladeshi musician. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films Mahanayak (1984), Shuvoda (1986), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Pore Megh (2004) and Mohua Sundori (2015). He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2019 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Begum Rokeya Padak, named after Begum Rokeya, is a Bangladeshi national honour conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement. The award is given by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. The award recognises the pioneering contribution of an individual in empowering women and raising women's issues.

Mohammad Noman was a Bangladeshi academic. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1994 by the government of Bangladesh for his contribution to education.

Salma Masud Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi justice of the High Court Division.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">First Khaleda ministry</span>

The first Khaleda cabinet was the Government of Bangladesh during the 5th legislative session of the Jatiya Sangsad following the 1991 Bangladeshi general election. The cabinet took office in 1991 and left office in January 1996. The Prime Minister and head of the government was Khaleda Zia.

Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls' College is an educational institution in Dhaka Cantonment, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is managed by Bangladesh Army and primarily for the female children of Army personnel. But female students from the civilian section also can study in this college.
