List of Doraemon films

This list of Doraemon films features both feature-length and short films based on the manga and anime series Doraemon . Since 1980, all of these films to date have been released by Toho. Toho currently holds worldwide distribution and licensing rights for all of the films in the series.

Contents

At the Japanese box office, Doraemon had grossed more than ¥100 billion revenue and sold more than 100 million tickets by 2015, having surpassed Godzilla as the highest-grossing film franchise in Japan. [1] As of 2020, the Doraemon films have grossed a total of ¥187 billion ($1.7 billion) worldwide. [2] Doraemon is on the list of highest-grossing film in Japan, one of the all time highest-grossing non-English film franchises, and one of the highest-grossing animated film franchises worldwide.

Feature films

Most of the original series films were directed by Tsutomu Shibayama. Shunsuke Kikuchi was the music and composer of the movies from the year 1980 to 2000, except the 1998 and 1999 movies, whose music was composed by Senri Ohe. Kikuchi was followed by Katsumi Horii for the movies of the years 2000-2004. The music for the films from 2006–17 are composed by Kan Sawada. Takayuki Hattori followed from 2018–present.

Stand by Me Doraemon is a 2014 Japanese animated science fiction comedy-drama film based on the Doraemon manga series and directed by Ryūichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki. It was released on 8 August 2014. It is the highest-grossing film of the Doraemon franchise. Bang Zoom! Entertainment premiered an English-dubbed version of the film at the Tokyo International Film Festival on 24 October 2014. The English version features the cast of the Disney XD show Doraemon: Gadget Cat From the Future. A different English version with local actors was distributed by Multivision Pictures Entertainment and VIVA International Pictures for a Filipino audience in 2015, however is currently lost. Doraemon the Movie 2017: Nobita's Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi is a Japanese animated science-fiction film. It is the 37th installment in the Doraemon movie series. It is directed and written by Atsushi Takahashi. Takahashi was an assistant director on Hayao Miyazaki's Academy Award-winning Spirited Away.

Doraemon's Long Tales, also known as Doraemon's Long Stories, is a manga series based on Fujiko F. Fujio’s Doraemon. As the name suggests, Doraemon’s Long Tales features whole volumes of longer and continuous narratives about Doraemon, Nobita and friends on their adventures into various lands of science fiction and fantasy, unlike the regular Doraemon series which is merely compilations ("volumes") of various self-contained shorts.

Events in 2017 in anime. This year is known as the Anime Centennial Year, and was celebrated as its 100th anniversary to commemorate the ending of the Heisei era.

Doraemon: Nobita's Treasure Island, also known as Doraemon the Movie 2018, is a Japanese anime science fiction action-adventure film. It is the 38th Doraemon film. The story is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island, with a screenplay written by Genki Kawamura - the producer of Your Name and The Boy and the Beast. Kazuaki Imai, an episode director on the Doraemon television anime, directs the project as his first Doraemon franchise film.

Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur is a Japanese animated science fiction adventure film, and the very first Doraemon film released during the Reiwa era. It celebrates 50 years of the Doraemon franchise, alongside Stand by Me Doraemon 2. The screenplay for Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur is written by Genki Kawamura, who produced Your Name, The Boy and the Beast and Weathering with You.

Stand by Me Doraemon 2 is a 2020 Japanese animated science fiction comedy film based on the Doraemon manga series and a sequel to the previous movie, the 2014 film Stand by Me Doraemon. Directed by Ryūichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki, it is primarily inspired by Doraemon's 2000 short film Doraemon: A Grandmother's Recollections and Doraemon's 2002 short film The Day When I Was Born.

Doraemon: Nobita's Sky Utopia is a 2023 Japanese animated science fiction adventure film. It is the 42nd film of the Japanese animated series Doraemon created by Fujiko F. Fujio. Directed by Takumi Doyama with a screenplay by Ryota Furusawa, it was released on 3 March 2023.
